Catherine the Great and Her Men
()
About this ebook
In this monologue, CATHERINE THE GREAT tells about the events in her life in Russia and her impressive and amazing accomplishments over her long reign as Empress of Russia.
She also tells about her one great failure during her reign. She vowed never again to delegate authority without keeping very tight control over any future authority she bestowed. She tells about the twelve young and handsome men who enriched her life and how she, in turn, enriched them. She abolishes the incorrect term “LOVER” for these men and explains that the correct term for all twelve of these men is “OPPORTUNIST.” She enjoyed the company of handsome young men; they enjoyed prestige and money. How is that for honesty?
CATHERINE THE GREAT presents images of the twelve men and the many personalities of friends and enemies and she tells about wonders she accomplished – all in a vivid cascade of events. This story ends at a time allowing for a sequel telling of other events in her life as she continues her strong and greatly admired administration of Russia as the EMPRESS OF RUSSIA.

Part One of Monologue
A Monologue for Catherine
Presenting the First Six Men
Cast of Characters
CATHERINE THE GREAT, always dignified, age between 45 and 55. She has a rich and clear natural voice. She speaks English with great clarity and never attempts to sound Russian.
In Part One Catherine wears a flattering regal gown of the period.
All images are projected on a large screen above the stage.
In this first part of the monologue Catherine introduces two projected images of each man as she best remembers him.
The first image should be a close-up of his face and also show his age.
The second image should be his beautiful body and also show his name.
In the curtain calls of Part One and Part Two Catherine introduces living images of these men. Living images like these are rarely seen in any stage production, but this is one of the many ways these men delighted Catherine the Great and how their companionship helped to brighten her life after the daily, endless and lonely hours of ruling by herself alone all of Russia for the benefit of Russia.

(Speaks as she walks to the footlights)
When I travel from one country to another I enjoy meeting the wonderful and happy people who live there. Travel without this delight can quickly become weary.
(Bows graciously to the audience)
Everywhere I go I ask the same two questions:
(Spaces like this indicate a breathing pause.)
1) Can any of you remember even one of my accomplishments as Empress of Russia? Never mind. All have been forgotten.
2) Can any of
