Reconnecting to the Soul
Here’s the bottom line: sometimes we come to a point in our lives when we need to reconnect with ourselves. By ourselves, I mean the real us – not the one who has to have the brand new car every few years or the Gucci purse – but the one who resides in us and is like a magnet for love and acceptance. When I use the word soul,
I am referring to this real self.
I have always been a person who is driven by my spirituality. By spirituality, I mean that I felt a connection to God or what others might call the Universe. I also felt that there was more to God than the rituals that my religion taught me to do. As a child, I always had a conversation going on with God or maybe it was my inner self. By the way, I do feel these two are connected. God resides in our innermost being... our soul. The connection that we create between our physical being and our soul is basically by living in God’s light. What is God’s light? It is when we follow our mission, what we were created to do on Earth, which is when we live in God’s light. As I believe that we fit together like pieces of a puzzle, we are all created to do something different and together we make the world beautiful.
For me, the time to reconnect with myself came a few years ago. Well, if I’m completely honest with myself the truth is that everything which has happened in my life was pointing me towards this connection. In fact, I have learned that making this soul connection is the purpose of our existence.
You see, we are born perfect as loving and compassionate beings... with a reflection of the Divine in us... and then life happens and we change. We become skeptical of the truth and light that lives within us and we lose our path. We question everything – our existence, our greatness and most of all our internal light. At this point, the need to reconnect to ourselves, by detoxing our soul, becomes essential.
My Journey
My personal soul detoxification started at a time when I felt like my life was going through a tornado. I felt like everything around me was just swirling at high speeds, and I was lost somewhere in between. I was running around like crazy during the day and not sleeping at night, trying to find the end of the tornado. Yet I couldn’t get beyond feeling tired, drained and unhappy, and my health suffered.
My soul was like a tethered cloth that was sewn together with so many patches. The patches were then camouflaged with artificial smiles and unreal personal expectations.
When I started this soul detox journey, I was the biggest skeptic of them all. But I had no option; I had to go through it or I believe that I would have had a nervous breakdown. It was a journey of my physical body, which was trying to achieve a connection with the soul. It was a journey of saying good-bye to the old brain that had bouts of negativity and sadness and hello to a new mind that exuded light and positive energy. I actually had no clue exactly what I had in mind, but I wanted to give it my best anyway.
A Surprising Development
Midway through my journey, something very interesting happened and I’ll tell you about it momentarily. But first, let me admit, I had no clue who Arianna Huffington was! I had read numerous articles on The Huffington Post website, but was never curious enough to research where that name came from.
One fine Sunday morning, I sat with my coffee and turned on Oprah’s Super Soul Sunday. On the screen, I saw a beautiful radiant woman talking to Oprah. Soon I learned that it was Arianna Huffington, and that she had a new book called Thrive. I so loved her story of overworking and trying so hard to live a successful life – it felt like it was mine. OK, maybe my life is not just like Arianna’s life, but I was also a woman, someone
