Paleo: An Introduction to this Diet

The Paleo Diet focuses on healthy eating and foods that our ancestors ate during the Paleolithic era. This time period began approximately 2.6 million years ago and continued until approximately 10,000 years ago. Foods eaten while on this diet included fresh meats, seafood, fish, seeds, nuts, vegetables and fresh fruits. As our ancestors didn’t eat dairy products, refined sugars, processed foods, and cereal grains, they were not a part of this eating plan. One thing parents need to realize is the Paleo diet isn’t really a ‘diet.’ It’s an eating plan which can be used for life as it provides followers with the health and energy needed to lead a vibrant life.

Health Benefits of the Paleo Diet for Children

When children follow the Paleo diet, they tend to be calmer and more focused. Snacks become a thing of the past, for the most part, and moods tend to stabilize. Many report acne disappears when they make the transition to this eating plan, and parents notice the children appear to be more toned and muscular. Our ancestors ate these foods from the time they were weaned with no problems and children nowadays can do the same.

Parents don’t need to be concerned that their child’s nutritional needs aren’t being met. Adults benefit greatly from the Paleo diet, and children need to eat just as adults do.
