Confessions of a Serial Killer - Tabatha Kristy

    Prologue

    1975

Without a sound the panel of twelve jurors filed into the courtroom. The gray-haired judge silently entered the room moments later.

The packed room rose in respect when the Judge took his place behind the large oak desk. The crowd quickly returned to their seats and a hiss of expectation raged through the over crowed room.

John Kencade rose slowly from his chair and the room fell silent. The tension in the air was so thick it was virtually suffocating to him. He stood quietly erect, tensely in his black spotless suit. He did not waver, he stared straight ahead. Impassive. His face stone cold, in spite of everything.

The elderly Judge put on his glasses and cleared his throat. The room became glued to the edge of their seats. Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, have you reached your verdict?

The jury’s foreman rose from his seat, Yes, Your Honor.

Pass your verdict to the clerk, the Judge commanded.

The expectant hush hung over the crowded courtroom. Every eye watched the envelope being delivered from hand to hand.

The clerk accepted the envelope and took it directly to the judge. Slowly the Judge opened the envelope and stared at it intently. His face remained emotionless while he read what was written inside.

John looked at the Judge, saw him read the paper, saw him pass it back to the clerk. For a brief moment he closed his eyes and silently said a prayer. Not to the God all human kind worshipped, but to his only faithful friend Brownie.

This could not be happening to him. He had promised he would be protected from the evilness of this world. How could he let these people take their life away with their evil rules?

The Judge’s voice broke John’s thoughts. Foreman could you please read the verdict for the court.

The man rose from his chair, clearing his throat. Slowly he opened the paper that held the decision of John’s fate.

We the jury find the defendant, John Kencade...

    Chapter 1

Drawing near was D Day for convicted serial killer John Kencade.

Twenty five hard years behind these iron bars had left John an old weak tired man. Unlike the cruel man who once terrorized the countryside of Southern Illinois for more than ten long years.

With scarcely thirty short days of life left on this earth, John had made a decision to tell his gruesome tale. He believed the entire world had the right to hear his story.

His life, from the innocent country boy he once was to the blood craving monster which he had become.

Beside him, local journalist Chad Vaughn was up for the challenge of writing down this man’s terror filled memories.

The year 1950 and John Kencade a ten year old boy living in the rural countryside of Southern Illinois. Summer times were the worst time of the year with having no friends around for miles. This solitude left John to find his own entertainment to pass the long hot summer days. The steaming hot weather and the overwhelming boredom of having nothing to do pushed John to the brink of insanity.

But this summer of 1950 was the summer of his rebirth into the twisted world of his demented mind and sick fantasies.

John recalls the day well as if it was only yesterday. The day dawned stifling hot and he was walking back from swimming in the cool waters of the nearby lake. The cool water had temporarily satisfied the raging heat of his sun kissed skin. A short distance away he heard a soft whimpering sound coming from the bushes. Curious he pursued the sounds. Searching the overgrowth he came across an injured old dog. The poor animal was emaciated. One of his legs had been badly mauled and was unusable. Jutting out from its poor body in an odd angle.

John was instantly intrigued and approached the wounded animal. Reaching out he went to pat the dog’s head when it turned and bit his hand. Crying out in pain, he jerked his hand back from the unanticipated attack. Shocked he stared at the red blood dripping from his open wounds. Staring transfixed on the beauty of its richness he brought his hand to his lips. Tasting the sweetness, a warm sensation filled his whole body making him experience unusual sensations of pure delight.

The dog lay there scared, in pain and now genuinely pissed off at the intrusion. Bending over he selected a large rock. Taking aim at the dog’s head he threw it as hard as he could. It was a direct hit, knocking the poor dog’s head back onto the ground with a thud. John stepped over looking down at the motionless dog. It was still breathing, but was knocked out cold. Kneeling down on his knees beside the poor dog, the adrenaline surged through John’s veins.

Raising the rock high above his head he grinned as he brought it crashing down with his full strength. The poor dog’s skull crushed inward splattering brain matter all over him. John wiped the sticky matter off his face enjoying the slimy warmth of it.

An overwhelming feeling of desire rushed through his small body. The slight bulge in his pants became painfully enlarged. Unzipping his shorts he took a nervous gaze around and released his swollen appendage. Wrapping his gore soaked hand around
