Setting My Spirit Free

About this ebook
After learning how to "adore" (through my knowledge of my love for my children, that I would NEVER change any moment of my past, because I would never want to change anything about them) and that "to adore" a person means to step into the space that is a person and thereby cross over into the space that is The Soul of All Persons, I realized that beyond love, which is prone to falling-out-of, divorce, breakups etc. (all forms of attachment) there is another form of love, Agape, which had none of those downsides and thereby allowed one to love endlessly and without strings. The agape I speak of is not one given to us by some higher power, rather one we are able to use and operate with accordingly.
This book was written just on the cusp of those changes in me and the way I experienced and projected myself into my world.
Subsequently, Agape and Unattached Love is the main theme and issue though expressed in many, many different ways.
All in all, Setting My Spirit Free, was not free from this Earth, but Free to love endlessly and without restraint.
Peace.

I've been writing for a very long time, what seems like my whole life, taking it seriously from the time I was about 11. Now, at 46, I think I may be starting to get the hang of it: Say what you feel, as passionately as you can, but always with an ear turned to those who are listening. Most of my more serious work is done at live performances, which i do totally extemporaneously, channeling the mood of the room as my fingers play on the guitar. You can see some of that if you go to "my" website. (Open Mics Austin is a platform I created to showcase the Spoken Word scene here in Austin, TX. Only a small role in which i play.)As far as I can tell what makes good writing is LOVE. Love ,plainly simply, and with no strings attached.I put these words/books before you, not so much because I want something back from it, because I think and feel like I feel my bones and my soul, if you were to see the world, experience it like it do, for even a brief moment, you would walk away from that happier, more alive, compassionate and in tune with all those around you.Peace, good will, and harmony. Let those be your guiding light.Agape forever,Scott VanyaPublication Credits:Stepping Stones Magazine, The Main Street Rag, www.carcinogenicpoetry.com, Texas Art Initiative, Phoenix New Life Poetry, Walt’s Corner, Manna, Perigee, Chicago Literary Review, Mobius, Cosmic Trend, Pitchfork, Romantics Quarterly, Artisan, Pegasus, The Neovictorian, Red Owl, The Story Teller, The Blind Man's Rainbow, Atlantic Pacific Press

Do you...?
Do you feel this way
(or maybe you did in your youth
when you kicked off your heels
and high-stepped it thru Life):
Do you feel like
you have more in common
with The Wind
than with your fellow man;
you have more in common with The Earth
than your fellow woman;
more in common with each child
(The Little People,
I like to call them)
than with any adult
you ever met?
Do you feel like
your bones are closer to rock
in their like,
than marrow and sinew;
your heart is not beating
but CARESSING its lover
B-O-D-Y
in each
deep plunge it makes,
more like
sea-sky-tree
rainbow, ferry-land, unicorn
than this Flesh-Stuff
Man has made us out to be
for so long,
for so, so, so long.
Do you feel at times
the hands that are moving
in front of you
are not yours,
but some higher power's
whether supervisor,
manager.
or
God?
Sally on!
Sally on!
Sally on,
even though or perhaps/definitely
MORE accurately,
JUST BECAUSE
the Outcome
is not known!
Is not known!
If your arms be wings
such as mine,
and your breath
is just the crest of the wave
on an Endless Blue Sea
like mine,
your arms hug
beyond All Ends,
and your face
is just something
the Eyes of Others
put upon you,
Then
Know,
Know this
Know this like you know That,
Ember-stuff
Vision-Quest-Thing
Fantasy and Madness Unbridled
are
You.
And inside,
though it is unknown
to what depths
you must excavate out,
every single one of us,
now or ever has or will
be
The Same.
The Same,
The Same.
The Same Desire to leave this World behind -
A Better Thing.
Leave this World behind
a better thing,
Than when you arrived.
When you arrived.
So be Sun,
Be Sky
Be moonlight on a still winter night
And Rejoice
Like there is No Tomorrow,
For Tomorrow
is only real
only real
If You Can Ever Then
Awaken.
---
Peace be with you, transcendence with you, and leave no forgetfulness out.

PREFACE:
This is the companion piece to Que Juan Miguel Quiere
.
And while not, really a short story
I beg your forgiveness, and only include it to give balance and context to Que Juan Miguel Quiere
. The two main characters are best friends. And while The Slow Man is a poet in a sense, Juan Miguel, in the other sense, is a novelist.
There are sooo many Slow Men (and women) it is to them I hold up my highest esteem and the most sacred pedastel upon which I place them: at-odds with no one or thing, and self possessed enough to know ambition truly is a fool's dream
,
It is to them, The Slow Ones, I dedicate this peace.
#######################################
the slow man rolling
tobacco around tobacco
his fingers brown
and his hair kept back
by bandana
wets his fingers on the stone
he has beside his hand.
when he goes home at night
to his one room
placing his pennies in a jar
he reads Steinbeck and
knowing too the soft coat of rabbits
dreams of his farm, his George.
His eyes before they close
claw at the light
crawling through his window
from the neon beyond
and look deep into that light
and see beyond the smoke
he has created
to the crucifix upon which they rested
when he awoke.
Were he to admire his
handiwork
he would
not
