About this ebook

Following the Enochian material that would become the Heptarchia Mystica, John Dee and Edward Kelley received a grid of letters called the Great Table that encodes a complex hierarchy of angels and demons, and a series of conjurations in the Angelic language called the Angelic Keys. These conjurations and the structure of the Great Table itself have inspired individual magicians and entire magical orders for centuries. Author Scott Michael Stenwick now does for the Great Table what he did for the Heptarchia Mystica in the first volume of this series, presenting the material in a manner that is true to Dee and Kelley’s original schema along with a ritual template that includes both modern and traditional grimoire techniques. The entities of the Great Table possess a vast collection of powers well-suited to practical magical work, and have been employed in some of the most effective operations of the modern era. Unlock the secrets of the Great Table, and put them to work transforming your life.

Scott Michael Stenwick

Scott Michael Stenwick was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1969. A natural storyteller from early childhood, he was drawing pictures and assembling them into simple narratives before he could read or write. In elementary school he was exposed to computers when his school acquired an Apple II in 1977 and has been writing and programming ever since. He developed an interest in esoteric studies as a teenager following in the footsteps of his great-grandmother, a professional astrologer and medium, and began practicing ritual and ceremonial magick.Scott attended Saint Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota and graduated in 1991 with a degree in psychology. In college he worked on two novels in addition to his studies but eventually decided that neither was suitable for publication without substantial revision. After graduation he went to work in the computer field and built a career as a software developer and information technology consultant. In this capacity he has worked for several Fortune 500 companies and designed and developed numerous business applications.Scott lives in Minneapolis with his wife and two daughters. After years of solitary magical and mystical work, he joined Ordo Templi Orientis in 1995 and became a Freemason in 1997. In addition, he is part of a smaller magical working group that has been in operation since 2002 and performed numerous experimental workings seeking to advance the general body of magical knowledge.

Chapter 1

Introduction

The first book in this series, Mastering the Mystical Heptarchy, explored a portion of the sixteenth-century Enochian material received by Dr. John Dee and Edward Kelley that modern magicians have mostly ignored, the Heptarchia Mystica. This book, on the other hand, explores a portion of that same material that has inspired numerous modern magical groups including the various Golden Dawn orders, Aleister Crowley’s A.’.A.’., and the Aurum Solis. Whereas presenting a functional system for conjuring Heptarchial angels required some elaboration upon the source texts, doing the same for the Great Table angels presents the opposite problem. Every modern group that has worked with this aspect of the Enochian system has created its own version or dialect, including elements and concepts not found in the source material and in some cases directly contradicting the original text. As with the previous volume, the goal of this book is to present a system that includes all of the functional pieces of the original system suitable for both modern and Solomonic working styles.

Generally speaking, you will get the most out of this book if you have already read Mastering the Mystical Heptarchy. In that book, I cover a brief history of the Enochian system, provide more detailed explanations of the various pieces of temple furniture, and cover the use of the opening pentagram and hexagram rituals to create the various magical fields that I have found to facilitate effective practical magick. For convenience, I have included the scripts for both the traditional pentagram and hexagram rituals along with those for my own AOEVEAE, MADRIAX, and NAZ OLPIRT Enochian rituals in Appendix A. However, I have not reproduced the expositions of those rituals here as these can be found in the previous volume. Similarly, while I have included Joseph Peterson’s images of the temple equipment explained in Mastering the Mystical Heptarchy, I have not included the larger images intended for photocopying that you will find in my first book. In addition, the previous volume includes much of my advice to beginning magicians, as I assumed that anyone new to magick and interested in exploring the Enochian system would start at the beginning of the series.

The magick of the Western Esoteric Tradition can be roughly divided into two basic classes, usually referred to as theurgy and thaumaturgy. The term theurgy alludes to the mystical practices of the art, in which the magician invokes the form of a particular deity in order to expand his or her consciousness and eventually experience union with the source of all being. Thaumaturgy, on the other hand, alludes to the practical application of spiritual power with the goal of influencing the material world through the direction of natural forces. Tension sometimes arises between advocates of these two approaches. It is often erroneously asserted that these perspectives conflict with each other, a belief that is rooted in the dualistic illusion of matter and spirit as opposites. Although magick as such is only practiced by a tiny minority in the Western world, this dualistic conditioning runs deep and manifests in religion, politics, and even the scientific establishment. In order to allow realized consciousness to flourish, this worldview must be transcended, regardless of one’s initial approach to the magical path.

In order to facilitate this non-dual realization, a comprehensive magical practice should include elements of both classes. An exclusive focus on thaumaturgy can lead to a perspective such as is found in syncretic practical systems like Hoodoo, where effective techniques depend largely upon methods and materials that have little to do with the spiritual development of the practitioner. On the other hand, a pure focus on theurgy is equally problematic because at best it can lead the magician to a perspective that dismisses material concerns as irrelevant, and at worst it can foster serious delusions of exalted realization that are not grounded in anything but the practitioner’s imagination – and in fact, for a long time the latter condition has been considered one of the hazards of working with Enochian magick. While reliable information on this subject can be hard to track down, plenty of rumors have circulated regarding practitioners informed of their own unique and cosmically significant destinies while in communication with the Enochian angels. A few of these individuals have gone on to publish these revelations, only to find them taken far less seriously by anyone else. Since I do not believe that the Enochian system is inherently any more dangerous than other forms of ritual magick, I suspect that this tendency has a lot to do with how the system is usually approached.

In my experience, most Enochian magicians never use the system for anything practical or material, but rather direct their efforts towards achieving some sort of meaningful dialogue with the angels. It is for this reason that I chose to focus my Enochian series on the practical applications of the system. I have no problem with the theurgic approach to the Enochian system, or operations undertaken with the goal of establishing angelic communication. However, too many published Enochian books approach the system as if all you are supposed to do with it is scry and/or meditate. This methodology is extremely limiting, especially when applied to as profound and powerful a system as Enochian magick. While the eventual goal of magick is always spiritual illumination, there is no real conflict between matter and spirit that exists anywhere outside of our own subjective cultural programming. Better life circumstances make a sustained magical practice easier to cultivate, and it is a sustained magical practice that leads to heightened spiritual realization.

In fact, theurgy and thaumaturgy feed off each other. Greater realization should allow you to create stronger probability shifts with your
