About this ebook

Gilded Ashes is an atmospheric and darkly romantic reimagining of Cinderella set in the world of Cruel Beauty. Perfect for fans of An Ember in the Ashes and A Court of Thorns and Roses.

Maia doesn't see the point of love when it only brings people pain: Her dead mother haunts anyone who hurts Maia, and her stepsisters are desperate for their mother's approval, even though she despises them. Meanwhile, Anax, heir to the Duke of Sardis, doesn't believe in love either—not since he discovered that his childhood sweetheart was only using him for his noble title. But when Maia's and Anax's paths cross before the royal ball, they discover that love might not be the curse they once thought. And it might even be the one thing that can save them both.

Fans who love Kristin Cashore and Rae Carson will find everything they're looking for in this extraordinary and romantic novella

I can surely say that I loved it even more than Cruel Beauty!

This was a clever twist on the classic fairytale "Cinderella" with demons, magic and curses. Although not startling, still a light, entertaining read.

I'm a sucker for cheap deals. So I saw this for free and it was on a bargain and I hadn't even read the author's other book before (but I bought that one too because it was also a bargain and also because I read somebody's review about her newest fairy-tale book that's Red Riding Hood inspired) and it was actually pretty damn good to read. Like typically when I get some stuff that's for a bargain, I regret it a teensy weensy bit but I don't complain too much because I got it for the price that I did. But this novella? I really enjoyed it and would have bought it for the full price if I had to. (This totally would have been really great if it was longer, too!) (I really thought I was at 70% of the novella but it turns out I was at the end and the rest of the 30% was just a snippet of Cruel Beauty Imagine my pained sorrows when I found out that I friggin finished it!)Anyways, one of the things that really made me enjoy this was how badass the female characters were. And I'm not talking about sword-wielding, I'm strong because I say so, female characters, but female characters who are wonderful and lovely and have great bonds with other females and sacrifice things for other female characters kind of strong. (The love interest was pretty great too when he realizes his faults!)I wish this was longer!

This is a great introduction to the Cruel Beauty world and the concept of demons and the Gentle Lord.

Liked that this was a short read, but saw how this could have been expanded out into a full developed novel. Maia was a strong character and the author gave us enough details of her suffering to make it believable. *SPOILER*: However, if I was in her shoes I would have realized that cheat of telling her to "rest" a long time ago. Her fear and cowardice was a good cover-up, but at some point you have to get smart.

Quite a good tale, for a short one :) I liked the core of it. I think if the characters had been explored more deeply and the story longer it would have been even better. Lovely chilling rewrite however.
