    About the Author

    Introduction

After completing my first book, Paranormal Reality: Investigating Paranormal State, I seriously kicked around the idea that this was it—no more writing. I'd done my research and wrote about the state of para-reality TV shows. In many ways it reflected the state of the paranormal community. I wanted to focus on my clients and those who sought me out personally for advice and guidance. Why make time to write blogs, maintain my Facebook page or bother with my old MySpace page?

Yet that little voice kept telling me that I had something to say that needed to be said. All those years of paranormal experiences and encounters with the forces of love and light as well as those of darkness and hate happened for a reason, and that reason was to teach.

On MySpace I had a blog entitled Shedding Some Light which was a teaching tool. More than 200 blogs covered a wide range of topics: paranormal 101, ouija boards, karma, Christianity, demons and demonology, metaphysical musings, exposing crazy New Age teachings, the power of prayer and more. And there they sat, on the new and improved MySpace, difficult to find.

My editor and I have put together this compilation of blogs, extensively editing and updating them. We've also included new information from my current blog series -- Eye on the Paranormal -- all for the purpose of helping the reader gain knowledge on such topics.

We hope you benefit from reading Paranormal Teachings: The Best of Shedding Some Light

    Chapter 1 – Paranormal 101

Things That Go Bump in the Night!

Does your house or apartment make as much noise as Disney’s Haunted Mansion? Do you hear a lot of creaking and groaning noises issuing from your living room or an upstairs bedroom? What about that noise down in your basement that seems to happen in the middle of the night? Does this mean that your residence will be featured on the next episode of Ghost Hunters as it’s being swept for poltergeists, ghosts, or demons? Have you pondered the idea that if you do have a ghost, or ghosts, it might make your place an attraction on a ghostly guide, which would then make your house famous?

Another thing to consider before you contact a spiritual advisor/psychic/ghost hunter/exorcist is the fact that there are many who operate on the notion that they’re the experts and you’re not. Therefore, they may charge you a lot of money to determine that the creaking noise on the staircase you hear is a ghost, when in reality it’s just that: a creaking noise caused by a weakening piece of lumber. Those groans that resound through your bedroom vent and whisper ominous coded messages happen to be wind, not a long-winded ghost or goblin!

Please use your common sense when investigating strange noises that you hear or if there are peculiar flashes of light that you might see. Call in a friend or relative to help out. Test connections to electric outlets if you happen to see flickering lights. Make sure that creak in the attic is just that, a part of the floor or wall that can shift when there is seismic activity or just the natural shifting this planet of ours does every day and every night.

In my home I noticed one of the lamps liked to flicker late at night. A ghostly nocturnal visitor? No, in that room the light only went on at night. And when it made a loud buzzing noise and caught fire, I didn’t suspect a mysterious entity. In fact, I wasn’t really surprised. For several weeks the light bulb had momentarily flickered when the light was switched on. The lamp had a socket problem causing it to give up the ghost.

You may need to visit your local Home Depot instead of summon an exorcist! Your house may not be visited by ghosts but just is settling down like a senior citizen with bad gas pains. Sure, you might have ghosts out there, or you might just have a night time symphony of creaks and groans that need fixing.

    Poisonous Mind, Possessed Property

What happens when your home, apartment or business where you spend much of your time, is a place where you feel uneasy? Not only do you feel uncomfortable but you start hearing those bumps in the night and this time some glue or nails won’t fix the problem. You might wonder how it got that way, and what to do about it. Think of this, a place that is haunted isn’t just a random occurrence, it has happened for a reason.

The root cause would be found in the simple fact that every sin that a person could commit while they were alive on planet earth can be found in the Buddhist concept of the three poisons. And if one can gather a comprehension and understanding of the three poisons, they can find the origin of every haunting by a ghost or poltergeist, as well as every demonic oppression or possession.

    The Three Poisons are:

    1. Anger/Hatred

    2. Attachment/Delusion

    3. Ignorance

All of the three poisons open the door to negative thinking and actions, which produces a negative mindset. This strongly affects the spiritual realm, where the very essence of being exists, thus producing negative energy which can follow a living person around via the law of attraction which brings them positive as well as harmful results. To further clarify the law of attraction, it is consistent in that thinking positive results in positive events, and that negative thinking results in negative events. When the negative-thinking person passes away they leave behind an energy that can continue to attract bad energy.

For example, S was filled with hatred towards E. at the time of his death. S’s physical body and physical mind [brain] is no longer functioning, since there is no heartbeat and no brainwaves. But, S’s energy is left behind, so by hating E, dies but the hatred still goes on producing even more negative energy via attachment to that hatred. Thus, the spirit of S has become stuck to that other person, E, or to a particular property that S inhabited.

How can this lead to property oppression or possession, you might ask? What is the calling card of a demon? Anger, hatred, attachment, and simple ignorance, so just as a heat seeking missile hones in on a heat source, the demon seeks the source of the three poisons and decides to take up spiritual residence. This amps up the three poisons with a newly found energy source which then manifests in one of two ways or a combination of both.

They wish to drag the living toward the source of negative energy [possession of the person] or they want to blanket the person with the same negative energy [oppression], both equally disturbing. The only way to combat them is via a spiritual exorcism and cleansing. For cases that have become possessed/oppressed already and to prevent one of the two above, a cleansing and revoking the negative spiritual invitation is necessary. Love and compassion is the tool that we use to combat the three poisons with the outcome being that we free the spirits of the living and the dead.

    Telltale Signs of Unwelcome Spirits

Now that you have investigated and established those strange nocturnal noises and found out they don’t stem from your kids updating their Facebook page long past their bedtime. Or the fact that you feel dread whenever stepping onto your property is not caused by the impending tax deadline. You learn that hammering more nails into the floorboards won’t stop the mysterious sounds. As for that continually burnt out lamp – replacing the light bulbs doesn’t seem to do the trick. What you have is a problem, and contrary to skeptics within the general public, property oppression is real.

How real? I’ve seen it, in the form of the most hideous looking creatures – far worse than anything in the movie, The Exorcist. I’ve felt it, having been thrown up against a wall a time or two by invisible hands. I’ve heard voices howl in my ears from the pits of hell. I’ve stepped into rooms that had the smothering feeling of an iron lung. I’ve seen rooms that were neat and clean, but less than an hour later, the layers of dirt and dust made it appear as though it hadn’t been cleaned in the past month. Property oppression and possession actually exists.

My goal is simply to teach people to keep their eyes open for clues and to help prevent property oppression, possession, and even hauntings.

What are the signs of property oppression?

    1. A room, home, office, building, or general property that you can’t keep neat. Does it seem that as soon as you pick things up you turn your back and those stacks of files, boxes, mounds of laundry/clothing, and piles of papers seem to multiply? This isn’t the general havoc that most children can conjure, this is noticeably different. You can spend hours mopping, polishing, dusting, straightening, scrubbing and cleaning up a room, but soon afterwards, it will look as though it’s abandoned and filthy -- like it has never been cleaned.

    2. Do you not look forward to going to your home/office/property? I’m not talking about getting those low down Monday Blues, I’m talking how about you’d sell your firstborn to avoid going there. And how you often come up with lies and excuses, to your detriment, and to those around you, to avoid going there.

    3. Do you feel tired, uneasy, edgy, just a little sick, often constipated, not living up to your potential, and feeling guilty about that? You don’t feel like you get anything accomplished, even though you constantly try? Like every day is mercury retrograde? It seems like the simplest things become complicated. You yell at the kids/spouse/roommate/co-worker for no reason at all? Or you don’t even realize that you’re yelling. Often people have to shout to be heard even though there’s very little noise nearby.

    4. Do you have trouble leaving the place? Does it seem like no matter what, even if you’re just going to the local 7-11 down the street to pick up a soda, that leaving your property becomes a big hassle? And that the five minutes it takes to leave suddenly turns into 10, 15, 20 minutes, and you just say what the heck and don’t even bother going out.

    5. You become aware of strong smells like sulfur, dirt, mildew, and rankness for no apparent reason. These stenches can come from even the cleanest rooms.

What are the signs of property possession?

    1. Have you become your local exterminator’s best customer? Rats, mice, fleas, cockroaches, and ants, seem to come out of nowhere. Bedbugs show up for no reason.

    2. Does the electrical equipment experience a higher than normal rate of power surges and brownouts? Do fuses and circuit breakers blow for no reason? Do light bulbs burn out quickly, and when they do, they really pop loudly? Do you tend to have a lot of shorts in your wiring? And even when you buy the best in consumer electronics, it seems that they blow up, and when they do it’s serious. Do computers and laptops constantly freeze up on you?

    3. Does it seem that even on the hottest days you notice a quick temperature drop until it’s freezing? Or it’s the dead of winter and your thermostat reads 70 degrees but it feels like 100 and then all of a sudden it drops to 55 or lower.

    4. Your pets stare off into corners for long periods of time and are reluctant to go outside to relieve themselves. And they start to refuse to use their litter box inside. Do they cry when they’re petted like they’re being hit or squeezed too hard?

    5. Do your kids, particularly the very young ones, start talking to themselves more? Do they have new imaginary friends over to play? Do these friends have strange and unusual sounding names? Does the phone ring at odd hours and no one’s there? Do you catch yourself thinking about people who have passed away or have you started to think about your own death, lately?

    6. Have you felt as though you are being watched at night? Or when you’re alone in a room/office/house? Have your kids been harder to put to bed at night or get out of bed in the morning? Do they wet the bed more often than in the past?

    7. In your kitchen, have you seen moving dishes, pots and pans? In other rooms, has furniture been relocated? Has food and drink disappeared overnight? Are there unexplained noises like pounding on the walls, particularly knocks on doors, whether internal or external? If so, do the rapping noises sound in patterns of the number three?

    8. Have you or anyone in the residence experienced: severe PMS, insomnia, difficulty waking up, stomach cramps, ulcers, decreased or increased lust drive or intense desire to commit adultery, depression, weight loss/gain, or increased alcohol consumption?

    9. Has anyone brought into the home, or property, a ouija board, tarot cards, crystal ball, runes, etc.? And have they started to converse with a spirit guide or lonely spirit looking for a place to rest its bones recently? The moment you make the invitation, no matter if it’s out of compassion towards the spirit, or if the spirit aggressively sought you out, you’ve opened the door to home/office/property possession. Contrary to the teachings of some, not all spirits tell the truth. Most people don’t know how to test a spirit, and they can become fooled. And not all angels come from heaven.

So, I hope these signs of what to look for in this list has been of assistance to you in determining if you have any demonic property possession or oppression taking place.

No Haunting is a Good Haunting

Do you have a friend or relative that you grew up with that you remained close to for years? Someone you loved like she was your mother – or even better if you didn’t get along with your mother – a person you respected and couldn’t envision being without?

Now, let’s all pretend we have someone like that in our lives. Pretend this fine person is called Aunt Claudia. Imagine she’s the most compassionate person in your neighborhood, and she is always willing to listen to your problems and when she does give advice it’s useful. Combine that gift with her ability to cook like all the best chefs and cooks you see on certain TV shows. Not only is Aunt Claudia a whiz in the kitchen, she transfers her love of culinary competence right over to you. And she never forgets your birthday; in fact, this woman bakes you a special cake, always knowing your preferred flavors. And her Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers are legendary. Thing is, you got so used to her, even after you left home, that you never really thought much about what would happen when she was no longer around.

When Aunt Claudia died, you were very saddened by the news. You were there for her funeral, and when her casket was lowered into the ground, you wondered how you’d ever live without your dear Aunt Claudia.

Let’s take this story down the road a few years. By now your lifestyle has changed and you have your own family. You decide to imitate your Aunt Claudia one Thanksgiving by hosting a big get together of family and friends. You’ve been in the kitchen all day cooking and everything’s going well, thanks to writing down Aunt Claudia’s recipes and recreating them. The dinner is a huge success, as the food is good and the atmosphere is pleasant, okay, maybe some liquid refreshments helped it along. Then, one of the guests complains about a draft that’s suddenly all too obvious. Maybe it’s someone who is naturally cold-blooded, or they just like to gripe. You smile, glad that someone is aware of your favorite aunt’s presence. Oh that’s Aunt Claudia! you inform the startled guest. She always comes around when I cook and bake with her recipes.

Now you’re able to keep your guests entertained with tales of Aunt Claudia’s haunting and one of the other guests asks: Why not help Aunt Claudia move on?

But you don’t agree with that theory. No, we just love having Aunt Claudia around here.

Think about what that means. Aunt Claudia hangs out at your place 24/7, but she only makes her presence known at certain times. Can you imagine how bored she is? Sure, she’s quite fond of the people that live in that house, but what can she do other than move some dishes or flit around near someone who can sense her, and then they just complain about a draft? How does this benefit Aunt Claudia? It doesn’t. Imagine that you had a full time job you disliked intensely, something repetitive and unskilled, requiring no creativity, imagination, or intelligence. The best part of the day came when you punched out on the time clock. But no matter how much you loathed your job, you generally didn’t have to put up with it all day/night/weekends, year in, and year out. If things got too rough, you could usually find a less boring job. But Aunt Claudia doesn’t have that option. She’s bound to remain on that property, or in that home, for a lot longer than most people remain in jobs they can’t stand. Aunt Claudia may love the people she haunts but she’s stuck there with no pay and no time off, until she’s freed to go to the bardo state where she’ll find out where her next rebirth will occur. Hopefully, she’ll be reborn in the human realm, and possibly she’ll return to you as your child, or relative, or neighbor.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of people who advertise the fact that they own or run a haunted hotel, bed & breakfast, restaurant, historical society, etc., where they exploit the ghosts of the past. They think it’s colorful and it adds money to their bank account. And they may even think it’s fun to have spirit(s) hanging around and dancing, and/or making noises. Having a haunting is profitable and fun.

The only good haunting is no haunting. I’m writing these words as I stand behind what they mean. Yes, I think a show like Ghost Hunters is educational. I appreciate anything that realistically and factually sheds light onto the paranormal, but it’s getting to the point where having a haunted house or a spirit tied to your physical premises is put on the same level as a car in the driveway or a computer in every home, and it’s not.

Spirits that are still walking the earth and engaging in behavior that gets them noticed need something. Since they seek attention, they choose to get it by knocking things over. They have issues that need to be resolved. They need peace, hence the term: Rest In Peace. But all earth-bound spirits have lessons to be learned, and that’s why they’re unable to enter the bardo state when they die. The lessons usually concern the three poisons, see: Poisonous Mind, Possessed Property and those really have to be settled so they’re able to progress through the bardo state to gain whatever rebirth awaits them.

I’m not saying we should run around willy-nilly dehaunting homes, offices, property, parks, graveyards, hotels, etc. on our own. But at the same time we need to educate the public about what a haunting actually is all about. To the commercial folks out there, who make money off of the dead, just let them rest in peace. Put yourself in the spirits’ situation, and think of how you would feel being stuck in a small area for eternity…you know there are better places out there, right? Let’s free as many spirits as we can so they can all take their steps towards enlightenment. The more we help them, the more we ultimately help ourselves.

    Chapter 2 – Demonology & Angelology

    The Unholy Trinity

Why do demons hate people so much? Why do dark spirits like inflicting pain and suffering on humans? Why are shadow people out there lurking in the darkness and hurting people? Well, it might have something to do with the fall of Lucifer and the beginning of the war between God and the Unholy Trinity.

The Holy Trinity came first, and then God and the Spirit of the Christ created the angels to serve a twofold purpose: Worship and duties in heaven and to be an emissary between the heavens and the yet-to-be-formed earth.

The angel that was to oversee the relationship of heaven and earth for God was the angel Lucifer. It is felt that following the Holy Trinity, the angel Lucifer was the most perfect, intelligent, beautiful, radiant, and determined creature God ever created. And some even contend that he is the source and the beginning of all music.

But something happened in the heavens where no one is truly sure. It had to have occurred prior to the Creation of Adam and Eve and it may have had something to do with the First Creation in the Book of Genesis.

Some contend that God desired to test Lucifer and all the other angels' allegiance to the heavenly powers. And for some reason Lucifer's ego got the best of him. He convinced some of the other angels, it is estimated approximately one-third of them, that God should be overthrown and that angels should rule. It is suggested that this happened when God revealed His plans for the Creation of Man and that angels, which were to remain higher than man, would have to be of service to man. Lucifer did not like that and the war began.

Two passages can be noted here. Isaiah chapter 14:12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! Ezekiel chapter 28:12-19 Son of man, take up a lament concerning the king of Tyre and say to him: 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: 'You were the model of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. 13 You were in Eden, the garden of God; every precious stone adorned you: ruby, topaz and emerald, chrysolite, onyx and jasper, sapphire, turquoise and beryl. Your settings and mountings were made of gold; on the day you were created they were prepared. 4 You were anointed as a guardian cherub, for so I ordained you. You were on the holy mount of God; you walked among the fiery stones. 15 You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created till wickedness was found in you. 16 Through your widespread trade you were filled with violence, and you sinned. So I drove you in disgrace from the mount of God, and I expelled you, O guardian cherub, from among the fiery stones. 17 Your heart became proud on account of your beauty, and you corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor. So I threw you to the earth; I made a spectacle of you before kings. 18 By your many sins and dishonest trade you have desecrated your sanctuaries. So I made a fire come out from you, and it consumed you, and I reduced you to ashes on the ground in the sight of all who were watching. 19 All the nations who knew you are appalled at you; you have come to a horrible end and will be no more.'"

The above support many of these claims. This is the reason why that in spiritual warfare Lucifer can go toe to toe with God. Yet, he remains inferior to God and this is the primary source of anger for Lucifer is just an angel he can never be God. But when he was cast down there was nothing for him to be cast down to. Or was there? More on that later.

So we now come to the start of the Book of Genesis in our journey. The First Book of the Old Testament and the First Book of the Holy Scriptures to the Hebrew faith.

Chapters 1-11 until we start with the story of Abraham these chapters take us into a very mysterious world, one that many prefer not to be discussed and often leave you with more questions than answers. Even if you do answer a question, the answer tends to produce more questions. But (in the King James Version) we follow the Creation story as it is taught in the mainstream with it until we reach chapter 1:27. So God created man in his OWN image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

We see that a man and a woman was created separately, this is not the Adam and Eve story – that comes later. The male is created as His own individual and the female was created as His own individual. Who are these two people?

    Are Demons Among Us?

That no advantage may be gained over us by Satan, we are not ignorant of his devices. 2 Corinthians chapter 2, verse 11

Demons are real. They live among us. They watch us, they hunt us, and they torment us. We may not be able to see them in physical form with our eyes, nor hear their voices, but they are there waiting to attack at any opening that is offered to them. Their sole reason to exist is to seek out, torment, and destroy. Let no one tell you that they have any other goals.

Demons have been with us since beginningless time. Demons are reinforced by ancient lesser gods or demi-gods who seek to challenge the heavens but know on their own they can't. They find courage in numbers. Also, dark and evil spirits once lived in a physical body where their spirit was so enmeshed in anger, lust and hatred. It forces them to seek out the living to inflict pain and suffering on with hopes that they encourage them, the living, to do their bidding.

Let's take a look at what the Old Testament says about demons. Deuteronomy chapter 32 verses 16-17: They provoked him to jealousy with strange gods, with abominations provoked they him to anger. They sacrificed unto devils, not to God; to gods whom they knew not, to new gods that came newly up, whom your fathers feared not.

At that time the Jewish people viewed idols that were being worshipped were demons masking themselves as gods. In addition, the worship reached the point of offering human sacrifices to placate them. Thus, the demon was able to achieve the goal that it seeks to achieve in a possession. They didn't actually have to physically possess anyone but convince whole populations to engage in such unholy acts.

If we take a look at the New Testament we see that demons are shown to be real and not merely as symbolic entities as many modern religious philosophers/teachers try to promote.

The New Testament declares that they exist. Take a look at James chapter 2, verse 19 and Revelations chapter 9, verse 20.

The New Testament goes so far as to describe their nature. Look at Luke chapter 4, verse 33, and Luke chapter 6, verse 18.

The New Testament describes their activities. 1st Timothy chapter 4, verse 1, Revelations chapter 16, verse 14.

Expulsions from the human body can be found in Luke chapter 9, verse 42. They also suggest an organization under Lucifer, Satan, and the Devil. Matthew chapter 12, verse 26, Ephesians chapter 6, verse 12. It is also indicated that they have a physical realm/dimension that they exist in. Luke chapter
