Author

Kolby & Mary Beth King

God changed their lives… With that being said, Kolby is the children's minister at First Baptist Church in Owasso, Oklahoma, where he and Mary Beth, his wife, minister to 150 elementary students each week. They are also the founders of three-thirty ministries, a resource network for the purpose of providing affordable resources to churches and families around the world. Kolby is a ventriloquist (which basically means he likes to talk to himself) and Mary Beth eats fire as a way of sharing the Gospel. During their years in evangelism and student ministry, they picked up other interesting ministry tools including stunts with six-foot balloons, balloon sculptures, fire-juggling (which one should never do on a windy day!), and a variety of other unique activities for the purpose of sharing Jesus with others. Learn more about events or training conference they can bring to your church or organization at http://www.threethirtyministries.org/kolby-king. "Jesus must become greater; I must become less." John 3:30

    About the Authors

This book is dedicated to children who seek to know God and make Him known.

    Introduction

    _______________________

    Our Goal

To help students experience God’s Word in a colorful, fun, surprising and creative manner; to ignite in them a hunger that leads them to dig in, crawl inside, explore, enjoy and live out God’s truth.

    Teaching Method

Children only remember 10% of what they hear, 20% of what they see, and 30% of what they hear and see. They are concrete learners, which means they retain 80 to 90% of what they do, touch, smell, taste, and help teach. Therefore, these lessons are packed with a teaching style that will help them to:

Find it. Taste it. Touch it. Make it.

Know it. Grow it. See it. Show it.

    Live it!

    Series: SENT

LESSON 1 - STEPHEN, STANDING FOR CHRIST

    _______________________

    Bible Reference: Acts 6:1-15; 7:54-60

Key Verse: John 3:30—Jesus must become greater; I must become less.

    ITEMS NEEDED:

    7 pairs of chopsticks

    1 spoon

    Four bowls of dry cereal

8 pieces of white paper. Each piece should have one word on it from the sentence: It can be hard to stand for Jesus.

    1 Bible verse poster

Rocks (about 4-6" in size) and items to decorate them.

    OPENER

Choose two volunteers—give each a pair of chopsticks and a bowl of dry cereal (no milk). When you say go, see how many pieces of cereal they can eat in 30 seconds. If you want, you can make this a boys versus girls competition.

Congratulate your volunteers and choose two more for the same game. This time, however, you are going to change the rules. Give one of the new volunteers a pair of chopsticks and give the other a spoon. When you say go, they have 30 seconds to eat as many pieces as they can.

ASK: Was this fair? (No.) Which was harder—eating with the spoon or eating with chopsticks?

SAY: It’s harder to eat with chopsticks and today we’re going to look at something that can be hard to do in life as well.

Give your volunteers a hand and let them have a seat. They can also take the cereal bowl with them and snack on it during the rest of today’s lesson.

    OPENING ACTIVITY

Lay out eight pieces of white paper. Each piece should have one word on it from the sentence: It can be hard to stand for Jesus.

Choose volunteers one at a time—Let each have a turn using the chopsticks to pick up one of the white pieces of paper. (Folding the paper over will make it easier to pick up.) After each piece is picked up, write its word on the marker board. Once all eight have been picked up, let your class put the words in the right order so that they read: It can be hard to stand for Jesus.

SAY: Today we’re going to see a story of a man who stood for Jesus, even when it was hard. And when you face hard times in living for Christ, we want you to know that you can stand for Jesus too.

ASK: In what ways can it be hard to stand for Jesus? (Take a few answers.)

ASK: Have you ever faced a hard time because you lived for Christ? (Take a few answers.)

    CONTROL TOOL

SAY: Anytime I say, You can stand for Jesus. I want you to stand up, and with a little bit of an attitude I want you to say, You know it.

Leader: You can stand for Jesus. / Kids (stand up): You know it.

    Let’s try it again...

    BIBLE LESSON

    Based on Acts 6:1-15; 7:54-60

SAY: Today’s Bible story takes place not long after Jesus died and rose again. The Holy Spirit had come and many in Jerusalem had begun believing in Jesus. The Gospel was spreading, and the religious leaders who didn’t believe in Christ had already threatened the disciples not to speak or teach in Jesus’ name.

SAY: I am going to read the first part of today’s story to you from the Bible. As I read this, I want you to listen to how the Bible describes a man named Stephen. Every time you hear a description of him I want you to stand up and then sit back down. Every time
