About this ebook
Lily Swan is a shy curator who has been involved with Mickey Slater, a brazen adventurer, for six months, and they now live together. Late one night, Lily gets a call from Mickey. She’s been arrested for the theft of a fabled jewel of ancient origin, the Heart of Solitude.
As the investigation proceeds, Mickey remains under suspicion, but the case is far from closed. And while the two women have time to enjoy each other’s company in the bedroom, they are also caught in the web of a criminal conspiracy.
Before long, they fall into the line of sight of a thief who is not above murder in order to win. Love should triumph over all—but will it? Lily and Mickey face the challenge of their lives.

Chapter One
Wait a sec, Mickey. Back up. What do you mean the Heart of Solitude’s been stolen, you’re in the nick ’cause you’re a suspect, and you need me to bail you out?
Lily Swan, an assistant curator at the Museum of Cultural History, could not for the life of her figure out what she was hearing from the other end of the phone call. She clutched at her cell phone, waiting impatiently for that April Fools’ Day joke to reach its climax. But how could it, since it was October?
Sorry, baby. Didn’t mean to upset you, but you heard right. The gem’s been stolen, and the cops hauled my ass to jail. With my reputation I’m surprised they aren’t hanging up the rope as we speak.
Mickey Slater, a freelance treasure hunter, always gave everything levity. But if what she was saying was true, she was in serious trouble, that much Lily knew.
Oh my God, Mickey. All right, all right, everything’s fine. Stay put, and I’ll get someone from legal on the phone. Then I’m coming to get you.

Lily blushed all over from her lover’s soft amusement. Can it, Slater, or I’ll leave you to rot in there—for the night anyway.
As always, Mickey’s laugh was endearing, and her voice deep whenever she spoke. Are you…? Are they mistreating you? Are you…hurt?
Lily was so afraid for Mickey even though she rationally knew there wasn’t a situation Mickey couldn’t handle. She was tough as nails. Still, there was panic in Lily’s voice.
My sweet Lily,
Mickey said, lowering her voice into a whisper, I’m fine. Don’t you worry. I’ll still be here when you come and get me. Alive and well.
