Chapter 1 TIP #1 What to Do, When to Do it, and How to Do it Correctly
I will never forget the extremely uncomfortable and exruciatingly self-conscious feeling I had when I walked into the gym for my very first time. I had never played any sports, so I was not athletic by any stretch of the imagination. To say I was out of my element in the gym was quite an understatement. I had absolutely no idea what to do or how to do anything. So trust me when I say I completely understand the overwhelming feeling that you may have when you first enter a crowded gym and see everybody like worker bees on a mission, all seeming to know exactly what they are doing.
Therefore, I truly empathize with my novice clients when we are training in a busy gym that is buzzing with activity. I honestly know how scary that feels. Obviously, I overcame my fears and became a fitness trainer, but that wasn't until several years later. My first several weeks and months in the gym included getting through the newbie learning curve and initial discomfort that every novice must endure.
But, you are so much more fortunate than I was because you have me and my books to guide you through. You see, I left the gym after my first attempt at a workout that day over 27 years ago, and I was determined not to go back until I had figured out how to utilize the fitness facility and all it had to offer to my utmost advantage.
