You have no doubt heard the saying, Don’t put all of your eggs in one basket. But have you ever applied this principle to your income? Suppose you were to lose your main source of income, which has happened to a significant number of people in recent years. What would that do to your lifestyle? When you start to generate more income than your main 9 to 5 job, you are protecting yourself as well as putting yourself in position to reach your financial goals sooner.

Many financial experts will tell you it is a good idea to save up 3-6 months’ worth of money in case you lose your job. Now, think of all the people you have known to lose their job in the past couple years. I can guarantee you know a few. How long were they out of work? Three months, six months, a year out of work?
