WHAT IS IDENTITY THEFT?
The definition of identity theft is: An action or actions taken by an individual for the purpose of misrepresenting themselves as another individual in order to commit fraudulent acts.
Most of the cases of identity theft we see today are financial in nature. The perpetrator steals the personal information of the victim in order to access bank accounts, creating credit card accounts in the name of the victim, or even applying for loans using the stolen information. Some have even used another person’s identity when applying for a job, especially when the applicant has criminal records which would disqualify them.
Identity theft usually creates huge problems for the victim, problems that may continue to affect the victim for years. In addition to monetary losses, a negative credit history or criminal records may appear for an innocent person. Clearing up this mess may take a lot of time, usually months, and often needs the assistance of legal experts, adding to the financial losses of the victim.

As long as we humans have been around, we have at one point or another conspired to commit identity fraud. The first case of documented identity theft maybe one found in the Bible. We will find this in the 25th chapter of Genesis. Here Jacob covered his hands and neck with goat
