It is well known to the literary world that Saul Bellow often turns down interviewers and does not talk much in front of reporters and interviewers. Once, a famous journalist, Nina Steers, said that Saul Bellow’s date of birth was the only sure information about him. Saul Bellow has always been very reserved and he has always kept his personal life very private. However, over the years, many curious minds have explored and dug out a few facts of his life.
Saul Bellow’s parents were poor Russian Jews. Since he was born in a highly religious family, Saul Bellow began reading the Old Testament from his childhood and he grew up learning Hebrew and Yiddish languages.
