      Introduction

      As we live out our Christian faith in this world, it is absolutely critical that Christians understand the essential doctrines of the faith in order to have even the possibility of living a faithful Christian life. We can’t act on what we don’t know.

      But even if we do know the truth, it is still possible not to act on it. Knowledge alone is not enough. The most basic truth about the Christian faith is that an individual must have both the intellectual knowledge concerning what God has revealed about himself and we must live it out in life.

      The Christian faith represents the most personal understanding of God that is possible to imagine. This is seen clearly even in the form of his existence. He is a Trinitarian person in whom relation- ship is central. But it is also seen in the fact that God has made human beings with the ability to engage and enjoy a relationship with him. In fact, that is the very reason he created mankind in the first place – for fellowship with himself.

      This book is about how to effectively engage that fellowship. The assumption is that you already have a grasp of who God is and what he is like. If not, it is up to you to make the effort to get up to speed on that topic. Here, however, we are focusing on the how to part. This book feeds off of the knowledge of who God is in order to actually interact with him in an intimate personal relationship.

      The most important element in pulling this off is to recognize that God is an objectively real person who can be known in a concrete personal relationship. Without the ability to make this a part of our own personal reality, our faith will always be something less than satisfying.

      This does not mean that a person must grasp the full implications of this truth in order to be saved. The fact is, the fullness of God is beyond our complete knowing under the very best of circumstances. That being said, there is a lot we can know. And as we seek to know him more fully, he continually reveals more and more of himself to us. But if we don’t understand the actual reality of his personhood, there will always be doubt and frustration. It is this sense of personal, objective interaction with God that makes him personal and real to us in a way that takes away the doubt and frustration.

      But, since God does not manifest himself to us in a physical body, it is sometimes difficult to grasp the full implications of the truth that God is a real person that we can know. Since we have to engage him strictly from a spiritual platform, interacting with God based on the idea that he is a real person often tends to be a struggle.

      That being said, it is not an unnatural thing for us. We were actually created for the purpose of personally and objectively inter- acting with God. And once we know how to do it, it is not that difficult a thing to do.

      And that is what this book is all about. It is designed to share with you specific keys and techniques to help you interact with God in a way that helps you recognize his personal, objective reality. When you truly grasp the knowledge outlined here, your personal relationship and interaction with God has the potential to soar beyond anything you could have ever imagined.

The reality of my initial experience of knowing Christ was so profound that it literally changed the direction of my life.
