About this ebook
Carla is a very responsible student, but at a colonial boarding school in a universe where magic exists, "responsible" isn't always a survival trait...
Charles Gray
Charles Gray is a 40 something history student who has likely spent far, far more time looking at the books of Parliament than is healthy for most people. On the other hand, historians argue with dead people and thus always get the last word. He is currently working on a number of science fiction and fantasy books, as well as "Abolition and Social Change" an academic work that will be certain to put many undergraduates to sleep, should they be assigned it in class.

In the aftermath of Terra’s expansion into the galaxy, many earth governments feared dilution of their way of life, as they came to live on conquered and independent worlds, and for that reason, many governments instituted the boarding school system.
Over fifty years later, most schools no longer serve as a way to keep Terrans from losing their culture, but to maintain continuity across planets and beyond, bringing children together who might otherwise have never met each other...
Terra and the Galaxy, Volume I.
The George Washington Boarding Academy advertised itself as the best boarding academy, not only on the planet but on all the surrounding worlds that linked into the New Washington Hub.
Not everyone agreed, of course, and in fact, just about every other boarding academy on the planet had made the same claim. Of course, the students at George Washington knew that was simply sour grapes. There could be only one best

Most of the other students weren’t even trying. They’d heard it all before as well.
The screen showed a grainy, black and white image of a large airfield, and over it floated one of the trading ships of the Tsavarin Families, all gaily decked out in banners and flags, the crew leaning over the rails and looking down at the cars and tanks of the United States military. Those tanks kept their weapons pointed away from the ship, yet ready for instant use in case the inhabitants might prove hostile.
The narrator started up as the picture froze on a close-up of an army private gaping at a saurian coming down the
