    Introduction

Teaching Writing to Children: Part Two is a second course on teaching writing to children in the elementary grades. In this course the writing genres of expository writing (all those real-life types of writing that give information), and persuasion (kids are always trying to get their point across - this section will show you how) will be covered.

Each lesson has a description of the writing genre, ways to practice in class, teaching ideas, and ways to display student work. Lessons on bookmaking and publishing are also included in this book.

So, if you have read Teaching Writing to Children or if you are just looking for some great writing ideas, this book is for you.

Teaching Writing to Children introduced many basics about teaching writing at home or in your classroom. This section will have a brief review of some of those ideas, and then continue with the teaching of Expository Writing.

One of the first lessons I learned is that for children to become writers, the writing must be meaningful to them. No matter what aspect of writing you are teaching, students need to feel that the subjects they are writing about are important to them.

Another important idea to focus on is the response you and your students give each other. Good writers need an audience - someone to be writing for. In this workshop, for each writing genre I will include at least one way for students to present or share their work with others.

This is a hands-on, low tech course that is written for grades 3-6, but the
