Swinging from side to side in embarrassment when introduced to her betrothed for the first time, the girl blushed. Her father motioned her to approach and Amina moved into the room towards her smiling parent. At her age it was still permissible for a woman to enter a room where unfamiliar men visited their home.

It seemed clear from the onset that the young man's interest in her was genuine as he reached into his white thawb, the traditional men's dress, bringing out a sweet which he handed the bride-to-be. This was all done, after permission looks were exchanged between the two men where her father allowed this exchange.

Reaching for the toffee, his hand touched hers making the girl hesitate. But desire for the candy overcame shyness and the girl snatched it before the handsome man changed his mind.

We have to be careful not to ruin your teeth Amina, said the young man to his fiance.

Amina brushes her teeth two times a day or more. Don't you, my gem? asked her father.

Amina did not brush her teeth twice a day and sometimes she forgot for two days. But, contradicting or correcting
