About this ebook

The amazing true story of an out-of-control rock star, his devastating addiction to drugs, and his miraculous redemption through Jesus Christ.

In February 2005, more than ten thousand people in Bakersfield, California, watched as Brian "Head" Welch—the former lead guitarist of the controversial rock band Korn—was saved by Jesus Christ. The event set off a media frenzy as observers from around the world sought to understand what led this rock star out of the darkness and into the light.

Now, in this courageous memoir, Head talks for the first time about his shocking embrace of God and the tumultuous decade that led him into the arms of Jesus Christ. Offering a backstage pass to his time with Korn, Head tells the inside story of his years in the band and explains how his rock star lifestyle resulted in an all-consuming addiction to methamphetamines. Writing openly about the tour bus mayhem of Ozzfest and The Family Values tour, he provides a candid look at how the routine of recording, traveling, and partying placed him in a cycle of addiction that he could not break on his own.

Speaking honestly about his addiction, Head details his struggles with the drug that ultimately led him to seek a higher power. Despite his numerous attempts to free himself from meth, nothing—not even the birth of his daughter—could spur him to kick it for good. Here Head addresses how, with the help of God, he emerged from his dangerous lifestyle and found a path that was not only right for his daughter, it was right for him.

Discussing the chaotic end to his time in Korn and how his newfound faith has influenced his relationship with his daughter, his life, and his music, Head describes the challenging but rewarding events of the last two years, exposing the truth about how his moments of doubt and his hardships have only deepened his faith.

Candid, compelling, and inspirational, Save Me from Myself is a rock 'n' roll journey unlike any other.

Wow. I love that God knows what I need to read and when. I first heard about this book when reading The Reason: How I Discovered a Life Worth Living by Lacey Strum years ago. I definitely wasn't ready for Brian's story. I was still too judgmental and not convinced of God's power. I couldn't wrap my mind fully around the fact that salvation is His gift to everyone.

I'm in a bit of a healing process so reading through the healing that took place within Brian and his V8 moments have been helpful. Especially when he realized that people expected certain behaviors from "Rock Stars" so there was no need to allow shame to silence him.

This was a good book. I'm set to read the next one so here goes.

this book was amazing and could really relate to it minus the rock star scene. anyone who's been addicted to meth would find this book inspirational. 2yrs frm the day he aired on Tv talking bout being saved I woke frm a dead sleep nd turned the channel on Tv directly to a rerun of the show. on that day I experienced a spiritual awakening of my own nd never looked back. I knew tht moment was just for me; meant for me

An honest reflection of Welch's journey from addiction and disbelief to freedom and faith. I enjoyed his honesty both at his wounds and failure but also he's not church broken and breaks down his misunderstanding and steps into faith.favorite quote:"I had a lot of Hell that God needed to squeeze out of me, and believe me, sometimes when the Hell leaves you it screams at God on the way out. There's nothing we can say or do that can separate us from God's love."

A very honest, real and inspiring story. What wonderful things God has done in this man's life. If you're not a Christian, read this book. If you are a Christian, read this book.

Inspiring and courageous testimony! When Korn was big in the 90s, I was listening to alternative rock like REM. I was never a metal head, so when a friend gave me this book to read, I didn't even know who Korn was. As it turns out, you don't really need to know Korn to appreciate the amazing journey of faith that Brian "Head" Welch took and relates in this book.

Brian is not the best of writers, but for this book that isn't really the point. He writes well enough to give his testimony of being saved from the grip of meth addiction, depression, anger, and money addictions. This book isn't really even about Brian, but about God. As a believer, I was inspired by how God worked and continues to work in Brian's life. I need to be reminded that God still performs miracles and he is still at work. That's why I liked this book. Not for the writing quality, but for the impetus it gave me to keep working on my relationship with Jesus. By the way, Brian makes it clear that he didn't find religion, he found a relationship. True Christianity isn't about how many times you go to church or which denomination you choose (if you choose one at all). The Christian walk is about a relationship with Jesus, and that relationship can save your life.

Brian's friend Eric said it well in an email to Brian when he wrote: "Going to church does not make you a Christian anymore than sitting in a garage makes you a car. A relationship with Jesus is personal" (p.125). Brian later writes about Jesus: "He deserves everything that I am, so for the rest of my life, I'm going to try and give him everything that I am" (p.147).

I think Brian best sums up his walk with Jesus when he writes: "I can't sit here and tell you that my life finally ended up perfect after sticking with God, but I can tell you this: It's all worth it because God is very real and I can get through anything and everything I have to in this life, good or bad, because god loves me, and I love God. Period" (p.217).

If you know anyone struggling with drug addiction, is a metal head of the 90s, or has questions about God and Jesus, this might just be the perfect book to recommend. The writing is simple but honest, unflinching, and real. No Bible banging, just straight up talk from a rocker whose life was radically changed when he turned it over to Jesus.

I enjoyed this book very much! It was a very eye opening and informative book on the life of rock stars. I thought I had a decent understanding of the life they live, but this book proved me wrong. You will walk away after reading this book feeling encouraged, inspired, and enlightened. Welch did a great job in detailing his life before, during and after Korn. He gives the reader great insight into what the life of a rock star typically is. I salute Welch for first, having the courage to go against the grain and stand up for his faith in Christ. Secondly, I applaud him for being extremely candid in regards to his life, the things he's done, and mistakes he'd made. Thirdly, for fighting adversity and finding the courage to not go back to the lifestyle that God saved him from even when everyone and everything was screaming at him to do so! Extremely well done! You're an inspiration to all Christians everywhere and a true encouragement to those who are currently fighting the demons that God helped you to overcome. May God lead them to your book. Stay strong and God Bless!

I've readthis book twice in the past year. I have a really odd affinity for the band Korn and one weekend I noticed it on my boyfriend's book shelf. I finished it in two days. I had to get my own copy and read it again just so I could highlight the parts that spoke to me. No matter your religion, this book will appeal to you.

As a fan of Korn I decided I would read this book. Head should stick with the guitar and leave writing alone. As a parent, I am glad to see him take the right step in raising his daughter. I too almost had to put the book down, and I apologize for this...........the book became corny...sorry... Good for Head fixing his life...now re-join Korn and do what you do best.

Save Me From Myself was an interesting read for me. While in one hand the overall story was good, the writing was horrible. About two thirds of the way through I almost stopped because I no longer was enjoying any bit of the reading. Fortunately the story picked up near the end, thus bolstering it's rating to a meager 3.5. An interesting story, unfortunately told through the writing of a guitarist.
