He examines resistance, opposition, political violence and individual agency in borderline situations. Instead of a simplifying contrasting juxtaposition of rulers and subjects, he is interested in grey areas, negotiations, interactions and hybrid forms. He is author of Schwarzwohnen: Die Unterwanderung der staatlichen Wohnraumlenkung der DDR (2011) and 'In einem Anfall von Depression...': Selbsttoetungen in der DDR (2006). He is currently working on a project titled 'Betrayal within the communist resistance movement against the Nazi regime.'view less
