About this audiobook

As December turns Lake Eden into the North Pole, the heat is on in Hannah Swensen’s kitchen to honor
two Christmas promises: baking irresistible holiday cupcakes and preventing a person who attempted murder
from succeeding the second time around!

While Hannah speeds through a lengthy holiday checklist, drama in town grows like Santa’s waistline on Christmas
Eve. Her sister Andrea wants to stave off the blues by helping out at The Cookie Jar, Michele’s love life is becoming
complicated, Lisa needs Hannah’s advice, and Delores has a Christmas secret she’s not willing to share. But nothing
dampens the holiday mood more than the chilling mystery surrounding the man found near death in an abandoned
storefront two doors down from Hannah’s bakery …

The befuddled John Doe can’t recall a thing about himself—except for his unusual knowledge of restoring antique
furniture. With a smattering of clues and barely enough time to frost Christmas cookies, Hannah must solve a deadly
puzzle that could leave her dashing through the snow for her life!

Story was on par wih others. The mystery didn't make much sense. Not sure why Erma didn't know where her aunt lived??

I've read other books in this series, though I'm not sure I've read them all or that I've read them in order. The title seems a bit of a misnomer since I don't remember a murder happening. From the author's note at the beginning, it seems that the idea is to have Hannah branch out a bit and investigate things other than just murders. Probably wise since at some point, you have to wonder why people would stay in Lake Eden, Minnesota when so many people are murdered there. Most of the regulars are featured: Hannah's sister Andrea (but not Michelle), their mother Delores, Delores's friend Carrie, Carrie's son and the dentist Norman, and the police officer Mike. And of course Moishe, Hannah's cat. I guessed that Moishe was the cause of the sounds before Hannah figured it out, but to be fair to her, she had just woken up out of a deep sleep. I liked Mike's idea to get a peephole for The Cookie Jar's back door. I liked Andrea's pun about the Vegas cookies. I lost track of how many different "new" cupcakes and cookies Hannah came up with during the course of this story--and, of course, they are all delicious. I understand that someone who bakes all the time has a good idea of what flavors will work well together etc. but I find it a bit unbelievable that there's never a mis-step. Never a bit too much or too little of an ingredient or spice. Never burnt products. Never problems with frosting or toppings etc. Never someone who appears to taste them who doesn't like a specific ingredient (like coconut etc.)

Christmas Cupcake Murder A Hannah Swensen Mystery with Recipes! by Joanne FlukeStarts out with Hannah and she's busy with the holidays, trying to help others who give a lot to the community. She is also helping her mother with her antiques and trying to help Carrie also... The real estate agent Al has led them to a business that is no longer running and they check it out to only find a body under the tarps.Hannah remembers the man from his visit to the shop in the morning and he was very polite and they rush him to the hospital and he recovers....the people in the village all come together and try to find out where Joe belongs. Love the clues leading up to where that is with help from an ingredient in a recipe.Lots of recipes are included. Listing of author's works are highlighted at the beginning of the book, index of recipes at the end and conversion charts at the end.I received this review copy from Kensington Books via NetGalley and this is my honest opinion #ChristmasCupcakeMurder #NetGalley

This Christmas installment of the Hannah Swensen series goes back in time to when Tracy is a baby and before Hannah's mother Delores marries Doc Knight. I wasn't sure why, but maybe the author wanted to rekindle the love triangle once again or explain some of the backstory for Delores. This story is about a homeless man with amnesia that Hannah befriends and her efforts to find out who he is.As usual light-hearted with delicious sounding recipes!

Just before Christmas, Hannah Swenson helps a man obviously down on his luck and looking for work. She gives him something to eat and vows to find him some work but just a short while later, he is found, suffering from the cold and with amnesia. While he is recovering, Hannah and her mother and sisters determine to discover who he is.Christmas Cupcake Murder, the latest Christmas cozy by Joanne Fluke seems somewhat misnamed. There is no dead bodies, murdered or otherwise, for Hannah to stumble upon. There is also little time here devoted to the mystery although, in fairness, it is one that seems a fitting story for the season. What there is is a lot of time devoted to the Christmas side of the title including a whole lot of recipes between chapters, some of which, in a different year, I would love to try out.Overall, though, I enjoyed Christmas Cupcake Murder quite a bit and would recommend it for anyone looking for a sweet (in more ways than one) Christmas cozy. Thanks to Netgalley and Kensington Books the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review

If you can’t decide whether you’d rather read a mystery or look through your cookbook for a new dessert, then just read a story about Hannah Swensen and you can accomplish both at the same time. These gentle cozies are more about Hannah and the people in her life in this small town and less about a murder. There might not even be a dead body for Hannah to stumble across, but there is some sort of mystery for her to solve, and it’s always fun to see Hannah in her daily life, interacting with her friends and family. This Christmas cozy is perfect for the season. It’s an interesting mystery about a nice young man who suffers from a loss of memory, due to a head injury. Hannah is determined to discover where he came from, to help him regain his memory. And when you finish this quick tale, you can spend some time baking any of the delicious sounding treats; recipes are included. A side note concerning wedding marches: the Mendelssohn march is the one used for bride and groom to recess after the ceremony. The march by Wagner is traditionally used as the processional for the bride before the wedding ceremony begins. Andrea should have known better!

Christmas Cupcake Murder by Joanne Fluke is the 26th A Hannah Swensen Mystery. It can be read as a standalone if you are new to the series. Christmas Cupcake Murder takes readers back in time to Hannah’s first holiday season at The Cookie Jar. She is coming up with new creations each day to offer her customers. Cooking, baking, eating, chatting, and holiday cheer are in abundance. Delores, Mike, Carrie, Norman, Andrea, Bill, Doc Knight, and Moishe are all in present along with other regulars. Christmas Cupcake Murder is easy to read and puts you in the mood for the holiday season. The mystery portion is light. Hannah, Carrie, and Delores find a man collapsed in a vacant storefront. Joe Smith has amnesia and a bad blow to the head. He can remember bits and pieces which Hannah uses to help her reunite Joe with his family before the holidays. I do wish the mystery was a bit meatier. But I did enjoy my visit to Lake Eden. It is such a cozy town with friendly residents. It is cold, but there is plenty of holiday cheer. It was nice checking in with our favorite characters and learning more about them. We get to learn more about Lars Swensen, Hannah’s father as well as how Delores came to open an antique shop. There is humor sprinkled throughout the story. Moishe’s antics will have you smiling. There are over a dozen recipes including one for German Chocolate Cupcakes and Sugar Plum Cupcakes. Christmas Cupcake Murder is a lighthearted tale with scrummy cupcakes, a curious cat, and a mysterious man with memory matters plus family, friends, fine food, and festive fun.
