About this audiobook

Note To Self: Just Don't Be Weird

Lock is awkward. He can't make eye contact, counts when he's nervous and has to remind himself several times a day how 'normal' teens behave. Homeschooled most of his life, he's resigned himself to a friendless existence at his new Atlanta high school. Until he meets West.

List Of Reasons Why My Life Is A Mess: How Much Time Do You Have?

West has everything. Looks. Talent. Money. And secrets . . . so many secrets. Beneath the surface of West's perfect existence is a pain he's buried so deep a million therapists couldn't unearth it and he's determined to keep it that way. He's an actor. He can act normal. But then there's Lock.

Sometimes Two Wrongs Can Be Right

They don't fit. Their lives are equal but opposite disasters and the universe just keeps throwing obstacles in their path. Every time they are together they find it harder to say goodbye, harder to keep their secrets, harder not to lean on each other. But for this relationship to have a fighting chance, the two must stop trying to re-write the past and start figuring out how to build a future . . . together.

Contains mature themes.

Not about the book for me but the narrator. When it comes to audiobooks the narrator matters and this one just sounds nonstop constipated. Why?

I feel like this book had the potential to be much better than it was, and it fell short because it didn’t fully explore the topics it kept raising. It felt rushed. There was a crap load of very important and sensitive topics that came up, mental health, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, sexual orientation, even responsible driving, but they weren’t actually explored at all. It was like they were written in and then brushed over so the writer could get onto the next bit. And maybe it was only meant to be a light hearted book, but if that’s the case, don’t put any of that stuff in there.
One thing I do have to actually condemn was a section where West is texting while driving. The writer seems to try to use Chelsea as the voice of reason but again it falls short since West’s internal monologue is him brushing off everything Chelsea said in favour of his ability to do both things at the same time and making it sound like texting actually is of earth shattering importance that cannot wait until the driving has stopped as many people think. In my opinion it was irresponsible on the authors part.
Regarding the performance by the narrator, I think it was a bit hit and miss. Lock was good. Jill, Jack, Jenny and Clair were good. West was mostly okay. Chelsea was another matter. I don’t know how you get teenage Jewish girl to sound like middle aged African American drag queen but that is what I was picturing every time she said something.

Triggering. So very triggering. Well written but painful. I pretty much had the worst week in ages bc of this book, but had to keep reading.

Another queer novel with representation of schizophrenia, how do I keep stumbling onto these?
This was cute but be prepared for a lot of angst.
