About this audiobook

Married couple, kidnapping, Nigerian oil crisis. . . this book is weird.

From the New York Times Bestselling Author Penny Reid

There are three things you need to know about Fiona Archer… I would tell you what they are, but then I’d have to kill you.

But I can tell you that Fiona’s husband—the always irrepressible and often cantankerous Greg Archer—is desperately in love with his wife. He aches for her when they are apart, and is insatiable when they are together. Yet as the years pass, Greg has begun to suspect that Fiona is a ninja. A ninja mom. A ninja wife. A ninja friend. After fourteen years of marriage, Greg is trying not to panic. Because Fiona’s talent for blending in is starting to resemble fading away.

However, when unexpected events mean Fiona must take center stage to keep her family safe, her response stuns everyone—Greg most of all. It seems like Greg’s wish has come true.

Except… not.

When all is said and done, can Greg handle this new version of his wife? Will his irrepressible cantankerousness push her away? Or can the couple find a way forward without either being forced to step back into the shadows?

Happily Ever Ninja is book #5 in the Knitting in the City series. Each book is a standalone, full length (110k words), contemporary romantic comedy novel, and follows the misadventures and exploits of seven friends in Chicago, all members of the same knitting group.

As someone who has lived through a marriage to a little long haul trucker, this is surprisingly true. I loved this book as it was about what it is to be married and stay married and stay married happily.

    5+ STARS!!
I am so happy that Penny Reid took a chance with a contemporary romance within a marriage. Not only is this type of story underrepresented in the romance genre, but it speaks to a large part of PR's audience. The prequel, "Ninja at First Sight," was one of my favorite reads of 2016 and I enjoyed seeing where the future takes Fiona and Greg 14 years later. I was seriously expecting some drama, but not the suspense. Yet, in true Penny-style, humor suffuses the heaviness that the drama and suspense threaten. It was such an unexpected storyline and each surprising twist was stunning and handled with an adept writer's hand. Using Greg's current career, Penny tackles some real-life current world issues. Although I am not always on top of everything current in national and international world issues, I trust Penny's intelligence and just went with it. Then I had some conversations with my military vet husband who stays on top of everything.

Where some books falter as a series progresses, the Knitting in the City series gets increasingly better or, at the least, maintains a consistent level of quality. Getting a larger glimpse into Fiona and Greg's world has been a highlight to this series. Penny captures the essence of most "happy" marriages. The small annoyances in marriage are sometimes on equal footing with the larger ones when not addressed and timely dealt with. It's the daily practice of learning to work as a team that helps a couple maintain a unified front when faced with larger obstacles. As a married woman, I could relate to so many of Fiona's irrational obsessions with mundane nuisances when also vexed with major life hurdles. Yet, while we see Fiona's frustration, the overwhelming love Greg and Fiona have for each other is ever-present (and sigh-inducing.)

What I can always be assured of when reading a PR book is 1.) Intelligent and humorous banter, 2.) Romance that infuses my heart and increases its size ten-fold, 3.) Character development that creates "real-life" people I want to know, 4.) An original or uniquely-told romance trope, and 5.) A promise of more to come.

P.S. I think Man-Child Matt needs his own book, as well. :-)

Great story! There's action and laughter and I did get teared up a couple of times. Still, what made it special was the relatable ups and downs of a couple struggling to make things work for them as individuals and as a family.

Incredibly disappointing, especially considering the other books in the series have been pretty okay. Greg, the husband, is a sexist bully who is cringe and has no redemption anywhere in the book. If you are reading this series, I would seriously recommend skipping this book. For anyone part way through wondering if it is worth it to finish the book, it is not. Bail while you can. I'm still going to try the next book in the series since none of the prior books were this level, but yikes.
