He wants her, badly. And she has no idea . . .

★★★★★ Goodreads Choice Award Semi-Finalist for Best Romance ★★★★★

From the New York Times Bestselling Author Penny Reid

There are three things you need to know about Kat Tanner (aka Kathleen Tyson. . . and yes, she is *that* Kathleen Tyson): 1) She’s determined to make good decisions, 2) She must get married ASAP, and 3) She knows how to knit.

Being a billionaire heiress isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. In fact, it sucks. Determined to live a quiet life, Kat Tanner changed her identity years ago and eschewed her family’s legacy. But now, Kat’s silver spoon past has finally caught up with her, and so have her youthful mistakes. To avoid imminent disaster, she must marry immediately; it is essential that the person she chooses have no romantic feelings for her whatsoever and be completely trustworthy.

Fortunately, she knows exactly who to ask. Dan O’Malley checks all the boxes: single, romantically indifferent to her, completely trustworthy. Sure, she might have a wee little crush on Dan the Security Man, but with clear rules, expectations, and a legally binding contract, Kat is certain she can make it through this debacle with her sanity—and heart—all in one piece.

Except, what happens when Dan O’Malley isn’t as indifferent—or as trustworthy—as she thought?

Marriage of Inconvenience is book #7 in the Knitting in the City series. Each book is a standalone, full length (110k words), contemporary romantic comedy novel, and follows the misadventures and exploits of seven friends in Chicago, all members of the same knitting group.

Dan the Security Man is the Bostonian “thug” with a heart of gold who makes good and loves thoroughly. Kat is the Reluctant Heiress with a nightmare family and is learning to heal and let her people love her and to love in return. This book is much more Boston than Chicago as the previous books were, but the the cast of characters are as colorful as Reid gets! Gah! The dialogues. So adorable (as adorable as SALtY language gets.)

I believe that good fiction can help us work through some of our own issues , so disagree with the other reviewer who dislikes aspects of Kat’s character arch - maybe her rants and conversations with other characters? Kat has opinions! Some of them, especially in the beginning of the book are wrong. But, Kat takes a lot of time to think through topics that effect her life - beyond the basic tropes within a marriage of convenience, such as the nature of commitment before feelings of love, and communication within a couple.

Reid - through Kat and Dan - grapples with wealth, family disfunction, drugs/sex/mental illness complications in orgasms. She and her leading man decide what lines they will and will not cross for their own peace of mind. So: Actual relationship issues beyond whether they’re going to “get together.” I think most of us readers are at this stage so readers may or may not want to use this book to think through our own issues. Regardless, Reid writes how the beginning of a relationship needs a lot more communication and community than most authors bother to delve into.

Is this book a pretty Hallmark picture? No. But , that sharp Reid whit, and abundance of healing through friendship that Reid excels at, makes this book compelling at times. Thank God it’s not too gritty and the main characters make loving choices in the long run, even some of the “bad guys.” It is a rom com, but a thinking one ,and my heart is so glad that Dan and Kat finally work out how they’re going to navigate life lovingly together.

This book has funny parts and "preachy' parts at time.

Kat turned to be my least favorite of the characters, but Dan and his Mother had me in stitches. So stinking funny.

Love how this beautiful serie ended. And that the last couple was Kat and Dan
