Before bringing back Skilgannon, Landis Kan had experimented upon other bone fragments found in the hero's tomb. That ritual resulted in a surly giant who possessed astounding strength but no memories. To Kan, he is a dangerous failure. To Skilgannon, this giant represents their last hope.

      David Gemmell is by far the best heroic fantasy author that has ever written a word. I cannot believe the folks that gave any of his works less than 4 star reviews are serious. They have to be trolls just looking to get a rise out of the literate people on this site. Mr. Gemmell was a treasure to humanity and we are fortunate to have had him on this earth for as long as we did. RIP David! we miss you!
