About this audiobook

Max loves stories, especially the fantastical tale Buelo tells him about a mystical gatekeeper who can guide brave travellers on a journey into tomorrow.

If Max could see tomorrow, he would know if he'd make Santa Maria's celebrated fútbol team, and whether he'd ever find his mother, who left when he was a baby. Papa refuses to talk about her, so Max has learned to stop asking.

But when Papa is forced to reveal his involvement in an underground network of guardians that led people fleeing a neighboring country to safety, and the surprising reason Max's spot on the fútbol team may be threatened, everything he knew about himself and his family is upended.

A treasured compass, a haunted tower, a mysterious stone rubbing, and a peregrine falcon propel Max on a dangerous search for clues about who he is and what the future holds.

I’ve never heard of Book so heartfelt. I love that Max helped the girl escape and find her sister and I think they even fell in love I don’t know. If I wrote the story I would put this the girl said I love you too Max when she gave him the kitten.

A touching story of a boy missing his documents, the courage to help others get to safety even if it is dangerous, and the mystery of what has happened to those who have gone on to Mañanaland. The story is set in a fictitious country (which is why some label this fantasy), but it could be in many real places around the world. Hand this to those who want to better understand the plight of undocumented persons and refugees.

    This book was Amazing!!!!

I love how at the beginning Max is only doing the how rescue thing just to prove himself. Then realized that the little girls problems make his feel like whatever.

It is so sad to me that they have to say bye in the end.

But I definitely think the author should of made the girl older and had them fall in love or at least have a close bond and tell us what happens a little later on in their lives and they get married or something.

But hey this book was Great! With a capital G!
