A New York Times bestseller

Perfect for fans of Me Before You and One Day—a striking, powerful, and moving love story following an ambitious lawyer who experiences an astonishing vision that could change her life forever.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

Dannie Kohan lives her life by the numbers.

She is nothing like her lifelong best friend—the wild, whimsical, believes-in-fate Bella. Her meticulous planning seems to have paid off after she nails the most important job interview of her career and accepts her boyfriend's marriage proposal in one fell swoop, falling asleep completely content.

But when she awakens, she's suddenly in a different apartment, with a different ring on her finger, and beside a very different man. Dannie spends one hour exactly five years in the future before she wakes again in her own home on the brink of midnight—but it is one hour she cannot shake. In Five Years is an unforgettable love story, but it is not the one you're expecting.

Very compelling with well developed characters and a nicely paced plot. It's about choosing family, about unbreakable bonds between friends who become sisters. Excellent narration in the audiobook.

I must say I did not expect this book to take the turn that it did. No spoilers here but it was just very surprising to me. What a great story about true friendship. The development of characters was wonderful. I listened to this as an audiobook and the narrator did a great job with her soothing voice. You really could feel the love in her voice.

Megan Hilty did a wonderful job of voicing the characters, and bringing them to life. I feel the reader makes a huge difference. Liked the story and got through the book quickly.

This book was a bait and switch. It used a magical romance novel hook to pull the reader into a story about friendship, coming of age, and grief. The friendship story worked great on its own, unfortunately many readers selecting magical fluff have plenty of real life grief, and the escapism is selected as a source of entertainment and diversion. The magical love part never quite mashed up well with the real story, either - potential momentum repeatedly fizzled out and all ended up mattering very little in the end. The friendship was done well, I cried real tears, the development of the main character rang very true. Shame the reader is primed for disappointment.

This book is not what I expected, but it's exactly what I wanted. If you want a book that has all the workings of a romance novel without all the clichés, this is it.

I could not put this book down. It had me wondering through the entire book "how's this going to end??"
  • (5/5)
It wasn’t the story I thought it would be- it was better. A beautiful love story we don’t hear about too often.

  • (5/5)
Exquisitely beautiful. A perfect portrayal of so much around love and friendship. This book broke my heart and made me fall in love with it. The narrator also added so much to it.

I loved it! This book was so good, it is a must read!
  • (4/5)
More than anything a story about friendship and finding yourself through loving another. I very much enjoyed it.

Great performance and sweet story! I highly enjoyed it and would recommend to anyone looking for a light read.

Fabulous concept. Self-aware. Light and whimsical, while holding plenty of tear-jerking moments. A clever twist. And the ending was perfect.
  • (2/5)
Such a strange ending .. I didn’t see it coming but it was dumb
  • (5/5)
This book was unexpected. I thought I knew where it was headed but it veered elsewhere. I liked it a lot

What a beautiful love story! The love between Bella and Dani and what that love does for each other. Superb story!!
  • (5/5)
The narrator was amazing! But my actual rating for the book is 3.5
  • (5/5)
Beautifully written. Not the ending I expected. Definitely a tear jerker. Although the ending is laid out within the first few chapters, the author does a great job keeping you guessing about how the main character ends up there. Not at al what I would have expected.

    SPOILER:
I would have loved if Danny and Aaron ended up together- having that be Bella’s last gift to both of them.
  • (5/5)
A bit strange.... but a story beautifully told about loss, friendship, and letting go.
  • (5/5)
Loved it. Really makes you think about not settling in life. I finished it too quickly!
  • (3/5)
Relatable, heartwrenching, predictable but not bad. Good for a Sunday read.
  • (5/5)
It was a page turner. You will enjoy it immensely.
  • (5/5)
Such an easy, fast consuming story. For anyone that shares the ability to lose control and wrestle with it, the main character is highly relatable and a delight to get to know.
  • (4/5)
The reconciliation of the story was moving. Didn’t see all that coming.
  • (4/5)
    Talk about a swerve.

The official description doesn't promise much beyond a typical time travel romance wherein a woman meets a man she believes might be "The One" which disrupts her functional relationship with a man she loves.

When she finds out "Mr. Right" is dating her best friend, the story seems primed to plummet into the doldrums of a torrid affair and the destruction of a friendship. Instead "In Five Years" becomes a really fantastic exploration of the intimacy between two childhood friends and how preconceived notions without all the facts can be subverted by simply experiencing life in real time.

"In Five Years" is one of the best (romantic) 'time travel' stories I've had the pleasure of reading. I heartily recommend this book to anyone looking for a change of pace in the romantic time travel genre.
