Descrizione

For fans of Liane Moriarty, Liv Constantine and Lisa Jewell, a twisty psychological thriller about a savvy second wife who will do almost anything to come out on top from the New York Times bestselling author of Behind Her Eyes.

Being the second wife can be murder . . .

"Once a cheat, always a cheat," they say. Marcie Maddox has worked hard to get where she is after the illicit affair that started her new life a few years ago. But her world of country clubs, yachts and sumptuous houses in Savannah, Georgia, isn't easy to maintain, no matter how hard she tries. Nor is keeping her husband, Jason, truly interested.

So, when Jason's boss brings home a hot new wife from his trip to London, the young Mrs William Radford IV isn't quite the souvenir everyone expected. Sexy, drop-dead gorgeous and black—Keisha quickly usurps Marcie's place as the beautiful second wife. But when Marcie sees the extra spark in the room when Keisha and Jason are together and their obvious, magnetic attraction, the gloves come off.

Revenge is best served cold, but in the steamy Savannah heat, blood runs so hot that this summer it might just boil over into murder.

The bad guy in this book became pretty obvious but how and why was less so.

I am a huge fan of Sarah Pinborough. She is an exciting writer to me because she is so creative I honestly never know what I am in for when I pick up one of her books. This one was no exception and with a cast of unlikable characters it was fun to sit back and see everything unfold.Marcie Maddox and her husband, Jason, had an affair that resulted in him leaving his first wife and eventually marrying Marcie. They hobnob with other wealthy and elite people in their town of Savannah, Georgia. One of those privileged folks is William Radford IV who has just married a much younger and beautiful woman named Keisha. Marcie is not too happy when she notices Jason and Keisha seem to have an attraction to one another. Marcie better keep her eyes on them because she's worked too hard to maintain her lifestyle and would hate to be kicked to the curb like Jason's first wife. There is way more to the story than what I just wrote in my synopsis but you honestly don't want to know too much going in. What I enjoyed about this book is it is a very slow build up until you get to the big thing that happens in the story. I personally loved that but maybe other readers will find it boring. I feel like this is the type of book that readers can determine fairly early on, like a quarter of the way into it, whether or not this is a book they want to continue reading.Once the action really starts to pick up, everything starts to hit the fan, but in a good way. In terms of predictability there is something that I wondered about early on, and my suspicions turned out to be true. But it's one of those things in which I didn't really have a good theory as to the details so it was still fun to learn why everything played out the way it did. Also there are some I guess what you might call bonus parts to the ending that were pretty unexpected so it's not likely a reader will be able to figure out every single piece of the puzzle ahead of time. This is my favorite of the three books I have read by this author. I just think she is a creative storyteller and I look forward to reading more from her in the future. Definitely recommend reading this one if you have enjoyed her other novels. I also recommend it to the readers who liked Behind Her Eyes but hated the WTF? type ending. This one is a more satisfying type read that is much less controversial.Thank you to HarperCollins Publishers and Netgalley for providing me with an advance digital copy in exchange for an honest review!

The first time Marcie said Keisha, Keisha, Keisha...all I could think of was Marcia, Marcia, Marcia (think Brady Bunch). Showing my age I know! Three seems to be a significant number in this book, unfortunately, I never really figured out why, don’t believe it was ever brought up in the book. But for some reason, this stuck with me.

An Illicit affair and the high-powered men and their women of Savannah high society...who knew? Marcie is a second wife, marrying Jason after his divorce. Keisha is a young beautiful black ‘girl’ from London, marring much older William after his wife dies of cancer. Lunch with the country club set, add in a trace of voodoo and a mystery and this story is pretty much all over the place. Rich people and rich people problems with characters I didn’t really care for or about. This story was fast-paced enough and totally kept my interest but it was mostly predictable on one level and all over the place on another. As with Behind Her Eyes, there was no WTH ending (at least not in my opinion), more of a high five ending. Good book for a cozy winter day or a beach read! It will keep your attention.

I received an ARC of this book. Opinion is mine alone!

Brilliant as always from Sarah Pinborough. A great story and a whole host of really despicable characters.

Lots of twist and turns, a few plot developments I DEFINITELY didn't see coming. Would read again.

Marcie is the 2nd wife of the wealthy Jason Maddox. She struggles to fit in among the born wealthy, but her life seems to be going well until Jason's both arrives back from England after the death of his wife with a beautiful new wife, Keisha.

I was excited to read Pinborough’s newest book DEAD TO HER. I think her book BEHIND HER EYES was one of the most under-rated books of 2017. I didn’t care for her next book CROSS HER HEART but was eager to try again. Unfortunately, I was not thrilled with this one either. The first half of the book was gripping as the suspense grew. The writing is good, but, in my opinion, the story went on too long with little payback to the reader. The portions dealing voodoo and amulets made no sense at all. Then all the strings got tied up in the last…maybe 75 pages. Overall, very anticlimactic.Thank you to William Morrow for providing me a digital ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I became a fan of this author with Sarah's debut novel, Behind Her Eyes. So I could not wait to read more books from this author. Cross Her Heart was ok but not as good as the first book. Personally for me this book redeemed. I really enjoyed this book. It got better and better the further I got into the storyline. Just when I thought the story was going to go one way; Sarah throws a few curveballs that had me saying "What just happened". I thought I would hate Keisha or that Marcie would come off too bitter but that was not the case. Both women were likable. They actually did not come from too different worlds. The last third of the story is where things really got interesting. The ending was smart and good. Fans of Sarah Pinborough will not be disappointed by her newest offering, Dead To Her.
