About this audiobook

From number-one New York Times best-selling author Sophie Kinsella comes an irresistible story of love and empowerment about a young woman with a complicated family, a handsome man who might be “the one”, and an IOU that changes everything.

Fixie Farr has always lived by her father’s motto: “Family first”. And since her dad passed away, leaving his charming housewares store in the hands of his wife and children, Fixie spends all her time picking up the slack from her siblings instead of striking out on her own. The way Fixie sees it, if she doesn’t take care of her father’s legacy, who will?

It’s simply not in Fixie’s nature to say no to people. So when a handsome stranger in a coffee shop asks her to watch his laptop for a moment, she not only agrees — she ends up saving it from certain disaster. To thank Fixie for her quick thinking, the computer’s owner, Sebastian, an investment manager, scribbles an IOU on a coffee sleeve and attaches his business card. Fixie laughs it off — she’d never actually claim an IOU from a stranger. Would she?

But then Fixie’s childhood crush, Ryan, comes back into her life, and his lack of a profession pushes all of Fixie’s buttons. As always, she wants nothing for herself — but she’d love Seb to give Ryan a job. No sooner has Seb agreed than the tables are turned once more and a new series of IOUs between Seb and Fixie — from small favors to life-changing moments — ensues. Soon Fixie, Ms. Fixit for everyone else, is torn between her family and the life she really wants.

Does she have the courage to take a stand? Will she finally grab the life, and love, she really wants?

the story is a bit predictable and the reasons most of the trouble are slightly a bit of a shallow but on the otherhand it was beautifully written word for word and it makes lot of sense to the point I can really feel what the protagonist is going through.

I could not finish this book. I constantly wanted to slap all the characters and I just couldn't get into this book. Normally love Sophie Kinsella books, will look forward to get next one.

I liked this one! Sure, Fixie gets treated like a doormat for a while but it is great to watch her gain the courage to lead a little and take some risks. On the surface this seems like a simple story but there is complexity and growth under the rom-com bits.

I’ll start with the things that I liked about the story. I did like the mixture of characters. I liked the original storyline of the IOU. I enjoyed hearing about her day at the store and her relationship with her mother and Hannah. I loved the friendship she had with Sebastian and how it slowly grew into more. The things I disliked greatly about this book was how horrible her siblings treated her, how naïve she was with the guy she’s always chased after, how she would always talk herself into being stronger but buckle from one look from her brother and then to end it all Fixie and Sebastian didn’t really talk through the misunderstanding they had, in the end it felt kind of like a rushed ending but also an incomplete one, this is not one of my favorite books from Sophia.
