I am a sucker for a beautifully written historical fiction romance novel. Kate Furnivall always delivers the absolute best, filled on suspense, action, emotions all entertained. This book is a Rollercoaster of hope, pain and love. You get so hooked and attached to the main character Clara and her daughter Alicia, it's almost as if you're right there with them, watching from an outer body experience.

There's so much sadness behind these stories and everything these people have overcome, but that just enhances the happy emotions you feel when good things happen because it's much deserved.

Clara was a resistance leader during the war, her and her daughter become separated many times but always find a way back together, through their unrequited love and strength they possess within themselves for eachother. Along the way they meet many friends who end up being foe, and unexpected allies in the strangest places. A tale full of ups and downs and an unexpected reunion in the end and a twisted turn of events. It reminds you that life never stops or pauses for anyone and that you need to take each day in stride and acquire the strength to get through to a better time.

The characters and the plot were gripping and realistic for 2/3 of the book. The divide between good and evil is palatable . Then everything that could go wrong did and it became difficult to read and hear. The protagonist became super human and the ten year old lost some of her believability. Still a great WW2 story I will not soon forget, a story of the human spirit and determination to survive. A novel full of emotional highs and lows. A brilliant description of the bond between mother and child and the horrors of war. The audiobook reader was fantastic and easy to listen to.

A lot if twists. It was not easy to predict what would happen. There are a lot of books about the holocaust, but this one was focused on what happened to people after the war ended which was a different historical perspective. Well worth the read.

Describes Tasha Yar's childhood on a post-apocalyptic planet! Much darker and grittier than most Next Gen novels.

I read A LOT of WWII fiction but little is written about the aftermath and so I was really looking forward to this one. The writing itself was well done, however I have to admit I got really bored with it. The suspense wasn’t there. I wanted to know what ultimately happened, but it felt like much of the rest of the story was irrelevant. I wanted to love it but it just wasn’t my cup of tea
