Brunetti is no simple character. As he searches for the truth, he constantly looks into himself as an officer of the law, a Venetian, a husband, a father. His inner dialogue is as fascinating as the crime itself.

I just love this character. He makes me feel like the world at least has a tiny bit of integrity left. And the narrator!

Each one of the books in this series is excellent. Commisario Brunetti ‘s life, relationships and musings are just as interesting as the plots. And true to life, much corruption is revealed and we, as well as Brunetti are often left with a system that is lax about bringing to justice people in power, and while justice is found in some way, it is never fully meted out. The fantastic narrator brings all the characters to life in a very authentic way.
