This was a nicely twisty mystery that brought back favorite characters and introduced new ones too. Savich is called by a neighbor when an expectant woman named Kara's home is invaded by a man who is drugged or delirious. Savich saves her and takes both of them to the hospital where Kara delivers a baby boy and the invader is in a coma.Meanwhile, Jack Cabot and Cam Wittier are on the track of Liam Hennessey who is a bank robber who has managed to escape from custody in disappear into the Daniel Boone National Forest with two unknowns. While they are trying to track him down, Ruth and Ollie are busy interviewing the lawyer who convinced him to take the plea deal and who was his only visitor in jail. Sherlock and Savich are also investigating the owners of the safe deposit boxes that were emptied during the bank robbery. When tracking down one of the owners they learn that she might be a witness in a murder case. The girl friend of the president's adviser's son was murdered and the son could be a suspect. When Kara's son Alex is kidnapped from the hospital one day after he is born, Savich and Sherlock have a new twist to their case. There are other plot threads too which are woven into an intriguing and suspenseful mystery. This book kept me reading because I just had to know how all the different plot threads twisted together and how they would all be resolved. Fans of the Sherlock and Savich books won't want to miss this newest episode.

Title: Enigma (An FBI Thriller #21)Author: Catherine CoulterPages: 496Year: 2017Publisher: Gallery BooksMy rating 5 out of 5 stars. While this is the 21st book of this particular series, it’s the first for me! I kept coming across other readers sharing how captivating and thrilling it was along with the synopsis I read that I found intriguing. The science part of the book linked with nefarious ways people wanted to use it was extremely suspenseful. There were several different situations occurring almost simultaneously and I wondered how they would all fit together like a puzzle or if they even would fit together. So many nights I was up reading and turning pages as I was going deeper into the story so very well crafted by the author. The various FBI players exhibited unique strengths and weaknesses, but when placed in a team they sure seemed unbeatable. The team of FBI agents doggedly kept investigating and considering possible suspects and some of what came about you’ll find quite amazing. In the novel, I would have to say that my two favorite characters are the married FBI agents Savich and Sherlock. Sherlock’s approach to the Kara character was amazing and touching. While also helping Kara deal with her crisis, Sherlock helped her to vocalize information that might help the FBI. Savich is a great FBI supervisor and yet he goes out in the field not to micromanage but to get information that other members of his team need to solve the case.I plan on going back and reading the other books in this series by Catharine Coulter because I found Enigma focused on telling a great story without the other nuances (i.e. foul language, sex) writers tend to think help build an audience, when in fact they detract from the story. I cannot wait to see what the older books in the series are like and what might come next from a new author whose stories I plan on reading more of!

Ms. Coulter is one amazing writer! The entire time, it left me guessing. She has a way of building up the suspense and crafting one helluva story. I haven't followed the series consistently, but this is good as a standalone. Kara Moody is the character at the focal point of this one, and the race is on to find her baby. I thought this was a page-turner and couldn't wait to get to the end.
The thing that shocked me the most was the contents of the metal box that was stolen from the bank vault! I certainly never expected that! Nor did I think certain characters would be shady, and they ended up that way. I guess I was just enjoying the story, so I wasn't really thinking about if a particular person was honest or dishonest. There was lots of action, running about, fights and gunfire, etc.

I enjoyed both plots that were running through the tale. One involves a baby kidnapped from a hospital and the other was about a bank robbery. Both went in directions I hadn't expected..lots of twists in the books plot.

I did feel there were a lot of FBI agents involved and it was hard keeping track of them all, especially since I never read any of the previous books. They also use some acronyms in here that I have no idea what they mean, like MAX and CARD, etc. Like a line would say they were talking to MAX but who is that? The book doesn't really explain it. It's obviously not a person...but then maybe it is as sometimes they say "he"... But then why is it in all capital letters? I think the story could have developed the agents more so I would know them better, so I wouldn't confuse who is who. You know, get into their heads. Because I feel I really don't know them any better at the end than at the beginning. I even kept forgetting which ones were agents! That doesn't happen with other books...

I admit I kind of weirdly like the very end?

This is my third book in this series----and of course I am going to read MORE of them. Definitely fun to read---a very fast 400 pages. I need to go back and start with the early ones with Sherlock and Savich.

I've never read Catherine Coulter. This book #21 in her FBI Thriller series stands alone comfortably, and I didn't have any trouble following along, despite my unfamiliarity with the series.I found this book to be very entertaining. It was fast-paced, and characters and situations stopped just shy of becoming stereotypical overused elements (e.g., FBI and local police at each other's throats, etc.). Coulter does a great job of developing two seemingly unrelated plots, and when these two story lines do finally merge, it is very smoothly and believably done.I liked the interactions among the FBI team members. There's a solid camaraderie and professionalism that never wavers, and there is no machismo or excessive showing off going on. The female team members are on equal footing with the male team members, and everything feels very natural.I also liked how the local police (mostly) cooperated with FBI and the two organizations worked together. Typically in procedural novels the FBI and local police disdain each other, and the strife gets tedious. Not so in this book. Although there was some of it, it was more on a personal level, rather than a blanket issue with an entire department or organization.I truly enjoyed this book, and I think I may just have to go back to book #1 and read Coulter's series from the beginning.

I was very happy to see the cases in this book were solved with normal FBI and computer problem solving. I did not enjoy the last book I read in this series that had a huge paranormal aspect. Once again there are two different cases being solved at the same time. They do not intertwine as far as the cases go, but Sherlock and Savich are involved in both.

When FBI agent Dillon Savich saves Kara Moody from a hostage taker, he doesn't realize that he will be involved in her life in a few more days. He is also not sure what the nagging feeling in his head will bring when he remembers the hostage taker mumbling that he is an Enigma. When the John Doe ends up in a coma and Kara's newborn baby boy is kidnapped from the hospital, Savich knows that it is somehow connected. Meanwhile they are also dealing with an escaped convict who was freed in a high risk rescue from his transport vehicle. Once again Savich is sure the lawyer who represented "Manta Ray" was a go-between who helped set up the escape. Not only are Agent Cam Wittier and former special forces agent Jack Cabot chasing him down in the forested area of Appalachian foothills, but Savich and others are trying to find the mastermind of the escape.

Enigma is a story that blends science and organized crime in a thrill ride with the FBI coming out on top. This was a fast paced story that has a plot that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The characters are well-developed, and the two plots-lines mesh together well. Her descriptive writing makes you feel like you are a part of the story. The emotions of the characters comes across and you can't help but feel for them. I really enjoyed this story and look forward to the next one. I recommend this story to any and all thriller lovers. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book via Netgalley.

Yes it's true. This was my first book by Catherine Coulter alone. I heard that she was a good author and now I know. I was really psyched to receive this book and it did not disappoint at all!I sped through this gripping thriller that has two major plots and lots and lots of twists. One of those twists was jaw dropping for me. I did not see it coming.I stayed up WAY until the morning hours as I could not put this book down. And, it was worth it! Excellent read for me.Thanks to Gallery, Threshold, Pocket Books and Net Galley for providing me with a free e-galley in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.

Enigma is the twenty-first thriller by Catherine Coulter featuring Dillon Savich and Lacey Sherlock but, admittedly, the first I have read. The novel is divided between two plots. In the first, she raises interesting ethical questions about human medical testing. A seemingly insane young man holds a pregnant woman, Kara Moody, hostage claiming he is there to protect her from some unspecified danger. When Savich arrives, he assesses the man’s erratic behaviour as a threat to the woman and, fearing for her life, he shoots him. The young man is taken to the hospital where he remains in a coma. Kara gives birth to a son at the same hospital shortly after. The next day the baby is kidnapped and an attempt is made on the young man’s life. The second plot is a more typical thriller although very topical. The girlfriend of the president’s Chief of Staff’s son is murdered. Then a bank robber known as Manta Ray escapes while en route to prison. Somehow, as Savich looks into the escape, he begins to believe that these two seemingly disparate events are, in fact, related. Enigma is a real rollercoaster ride full of suspense, intrigue, action, and constant twists and turns. The chapters alternate between the two different plots but Coulter handles these changes with aplomb assuring that the reader never gets lost in the shuffle. Although this was my introduction to the series, it worked very well as a standalone. I am definitely looking forward to reading more of this series in the future. Thanks to Netgalley and Simon & Schuster Canada for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review

Two plots are featured in this latest edition to the FBI series. If there is one thing we as readers can count on, it's Catherine Coulter delivering complex, well put together story lines and presenting them in another top notch thriller. This novel has risks, intrigue, danger, mystery, thrills, chills, and is so very captivating. I would recommend this for any reader that enjoys Mystery and Thrillers and doesn't mind losing a little sleep to read "just one more page."

I received a free advance e-copy of this book and have chosen to write an honest and unbiased review. I have no personal affiliation with the author. Another great crime thriller by one of my all time favorite authors. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading all the books in the Savich and Sherlock series. ‘Enigma’ is well written with well-developed characters and two intricate plots. I couldn’t put it down. The action never quits, full of twists and turns. A baby is kidnapped, a scientist is looking for the fountain of youth using today’s modern technology, a dangerous escaped prisoner, a Russian. Be careful what you wish for. Catherine Coulter weaves everything together blending science with crime in an amazing thrill ride right to the end. I liked the chemistry between Cam Wittier and Jack Cabot and look forward to reading more about them in the future. This book is well worth the read and I’m looking forward to reading more adventures with Savich and Sherlock. I would also like to see more interaction between Cam and Jack in the future.

Egnima is the next FBI thriller by Catherine Coulter. Ms. Coulter has become a master at crafting stories that keep you on the edge of your seat and anticipating the next twist & turn in the plot. Savich & Sherlock find themselves in the middle of two distinct cases. In one, an international criminal escapes from federal custody during a prison transfer. In the other case, a young man breaks in & accosts a young pregnant woman that has recently moved into the neighborhood. After Savich enters the house & attempts to disarm him, the young man collapses & lapses into a coma. What did "John Doe" know? What's happened to him? This story has a little different outline than Ms. Coulter's other FBI books. Other than some flirting & a hint of a romance starting between Cam & Jack, romance has been left out of this story. This served to make the actual mysteries & the storylines a bigger focus. The romance & the time spent with Sean, Savich & Sherlock's son, usually is a break from the intrigue & time to decompress before the next dramatic escalation of activity. While I missed these parts, the story did not suffer from it. The plot was similar to a rollercoaster in the buildup & fall before the big escalation & discovery. As a reader, my attention was caught from the beginning & didn't waiver until the end.

Agent Dillon Savich saves pregnant Kara Moody from the seemingly-unbalanced man who held her hostage in her own home. But the man, known only as John Doe, falls into a coma and, while in the hospital, becomes the target of a murderer. Dillon must solve the mystery of the man’s identity while investigating the attempted murder.Meanwhile, the abduction of Kara’s newborn son, Alex, from the hospital and the tracking of an escaped felon in the Daniel Boone National Forest keep agents Sherlock, Cam Wittier and Special Services agent Jack Cabot busy. And then the girlfriend of the president’s Chief of Staff’s only son is murdered . . . .Readers will find much to appreciate in this twenty-first FBI thriller, but the story function well as a stand-alone for anyone new to the series. Well-developed characters and multiple story lines, along with fast-paced plot twists and turns, ramp up the suspense and keep the pages turning. Unexpected reveals and plenty of intrigue make this a tantalizing tale.Highly recommended.

MY REVIEW OF “ENIGMA” by CATHERINE COULTERAnother sleepless night for me, since it was so hard to stop reading “ENIGMA” by Catherine Coulter. The Genre for this novel is Mystery and Thriller. This is the 21st novel in Catherine Coulter’s series, and I have to confess that this is the first time I have read a novel by this author, as well as a novel in this series. I intend to revisit the other books in this series. I didn’t have a difficult time following the characters or story. The timeline of this story is set mostly in the present. The author describes the characters as complex and complicated. There is a contrast between the “good ” characters from the FBI, and the “evil” or “bad” criminals. The story has different layers, twists and turns and adventure. There are two mysteries in this novel, where the FBI is involved. Agents Savich, Sherlock, Jack Cabot and Cam Wittier are involved in solving the unusual crimes. One mystery is an international one and involves the son of a Presidential top advisor. There are robberies, and murders, and intense intrigue. The other mystery involves a strange man in a coma known as John Doe. He is considered an “Enigma” because of strange drugs and needle marks found in his system. There is also a kidnapping of a newborn baby and more murders. This novel has risks, intrigue, danger, mystery, thrills, chills, and is captivating and I would recommend this for any reader that enjoys Mystery and Thrillers. I received a copy of this ARC for my honest review. Be warned: This could keep you up at night!!

This FBI thriller is the 21st in a series and involves husband and wife agents Savich and Sherlock, who are working two different cases. So this is like two stories in one book. Each story as exciting as the other. One involves a bank robber who has escaped custody by persons unknown and the other one a young pregnant woman who is kidnapped, saved, gives birth and the child is kidnapped from the hospital. This novel is filled with suspense, tension, action and so much more. At first, I though the stories were connected, but soon realized they weren’t. I found it all so exciting!

Enigma by Catherine CoulterFBI thriller with recurring characters Savich and Sherlock from this long running series. This is the 21st book and while it can stand alone a mystery, having some familiarity with the series will make it a better and richer storyline. Since it is a series, there is a lot of name dropping in the first 50 pages as the story gets set up for the FBI team to go after the escapee. Keeping track of them all can be a bit difficult.Chapters alternate between characters and situations.Overall I really enjoyed the quick action, intelligent analysis, and how all the threads wove together.Multiple epilogues wrapped up several relationships and started new directions. Don't skip these or you will miss the fun.I received a copy of the book from NetGalley.

ENIGMAFBI THRILLER # 21CATHERINE COULTERMY RATING ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️▫️PUBLISHERGallery BooksPUBLISHEDSeptember 12, 2017Enigma is an intriguing fusion of characters and events that blend into a riveting novel.SUMMARYENIGMA is the twenty-first FBI Thriller novel written by CATHERINE COULTER. Married Agents Savich and Sherlock work tirelessly to solve two perplexing mysteries in the Washington D.C. area. One involves a seemingly crazy man who calls himself an enigma, who came barreling into a woman’s house and holds her at gunpoint. Agent Dillion Savich saves the pregnant woman, Kara Moody from the unkempt dirty man who was trying to take her somewhere, to protect her from something or someone. The man is captured, hospitalized and sinks into a coma. The mystery of who he is and what he was trying to protect Kara from remains. Kara goes into to labor from the stress and gives birth to a healthy baby boy. When her baby, Alex is kidnapped from the hospital, the race is own to find him. The second mystery involves an escaped violent prisoner who has disappeared into Daniel Boone National Forest. Agents Cam Whittier and Jack Cabot are on his tail. Liam Hennessey was convicted of robbing a bank. The search is on to find who helped him escape and why. It may all somehow tie to the murder of Mia Prevost, the girlfriend of Saxon Hainny, the only son of President Gilbert’s chief of staff. REVIEW ENIGMA was like the big pot of delicious vegetable soup my mom used to make, with a good mix of fresh ingredients. You have a raging madman, an agonizing baby kidnapping, a violent escapee on the loose, a cunning pharmaceutical CEO, several brutal murders, honorable homeless men, a unscrupulous lawyer, a shoot out on the Potomac and then add in savy FBI agents, a worried Presidents Chief of Staff and a pale Russian banker. And like the soup, it all comes together at the end to make an tantalizing and savory offering, fit for quick and enjoyable consumption. Having read many of CATHERINE COULTER’s FBI Thriller series I was looking forward to the banter and chemistry typically between Sherlock and Savich. Sadly, there wasn't a lot of interaction between the two. Instead the focus and repartee seem to be gravitating to the younger Agents Whittier and Cabot. I guess after twenty-one novels maybe it's time. But I hope not! Thanks to NetGalley, Gallery Book and Catherine Coulter for a advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
