About this audiobook

Domestic noir at its best. Readers will devour this stunning page-turner about the disintegration of a marriage as grief, jealousy, betrayal and murder destroy the facade of the perfect literary couple. New York Times bestselling author J.T. Ellison takes her exceptional writing to a new level with this breakout novel.

They built a life on lies

Sutton and Ethan Montclair’s idyllic life is not as it appears. They seem made for each other, but the truth is ugly. Consumed by professional and personal betrayals and financial woes, the two both love and hate each other. As tensions mount, Sutton disappears, leaving behind a note saying not to look for her.

Ethan finds himself the target of vicious gossip as friends, family and the media speculate on what really happened to Sutton Montclair. As the police investigate, the lies the couple have been spinning for years quickly unravel. Is Ethan a killer? Is he being set up? Did Sutton hate him enough to kill the child she never wanted and then herself? The path to the answers is full of twists that will leave the reader breathless.

I really really enjoyed this book! It was a little bit "Gone girl" but I enjoyed that too so I didn't mind lol! I liked the three different narrators and it was very well read.
    Definitely give it a go!

I usually don’t write book reviews, but I really enjoyed this book! It kept me guessing to the end, and I wasn’t disappointed in the ending, which isn’t always the case when I really get invested in the story … I listen to several audiobooks a week so I have heard a lot of stories, and this one was definitely not a disappointment.

Great story, told fantastically. Having 3 readers read was a good idea, to keep the "sides of the story" very clearly separate. The story of 2 successful writers who seemingly have a perfect life, only for it to be torn apart when Sutton goes missing. Did Ethan kill Sutton? Dark secrets and plenty of twists will keep you listening eagerly. I ended up listening on a higher speed than I usually do, desperate to gobble up the story, too greedy to wait.

Although I guess early on in the plot the IV was the suspect the boat still managed to keep me interested it and riveted to the story and I really liked the ending

This book captured me from the beginning. A little dry in the middle, but came together perfectly.

The words that came to mind after reading this book are as follows, spellbinding, trilling ,captivating, and a whirlwind of chaos. Those are the first things that pop into my head after reading J.T. Ellison's Lie to Me . Seriously, one of the best books I've read this year! Lie to Me sets the stage with Ethan and Sutton Montclair residing in their home in Franklin, Tennessee. Ethan finds a note from his beloved wife basically telling him she's left him and to not look for her. Confused, desperate, and unsure, Ethan begins a search of his own. As the police investigate, lies begin to unravel and secrets begin to be uncovered. Someone's lying, but who?

This was my first book by J.T. Ellison and it will definitely not be my last. I just want to note that I am soooo happy that Mira Books did not compare this to Gone Girl. However, this book kept me guessing until almost the very end. I really encourage you to pick this one up if you are looking for something original, but sinister.

Don’t let “presented by Harlequin audio” put you off, it’s not your typical Harlequin novel.

Narration was average; not great but not bad. Make narrator had an interesting method of feeling his voice for women - which was odd, but yet better than the often used chipmunk voice.

The story on the other hand… I really struggle to find anything redeeming to say in this one. It starts off ok, it’s not a good story and it’s poorly edited. Editing example: ‘the dawn was dawning’
Storyline example: a character decides to dispose of a knife in a river… bc if it were to go in a it might cut the trash bag, fall out and hurt a CHILD because it’s SOOO SHARP…
All around a complete and utter waste of 10/12hrs. Novels about authors are rarely good and this is no exception and unless you enjoy reading about the writing process, artistic struggles and unpleasant narcissists with insatiable sexual appetites (ie if you liked gone girl), skip this one.
If you’re going to do it, use 1.5x.. but please, save yourself!!
