About this audiobook
In this indispensable volume, one of America's ranking scholars combines a life's work of research and teaching with the art of lively narration. Both authoritative and beautifully told, The Middle Ages is the full story of the thousand years between the fall of Rome and the Renaissance-a time that saw the rise of kings and emperors, the flowering of knighthood, the development of Europe, the increasing power of the Catholic Church, and the advent of the middle class.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I loved it, great story telling and good narrator. It gives u some detail but not too much. Some of the aspects of details on art got boring but overall a great time. It is definitely worth the listen.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This is an easy read, not an academic work. It’s also not a chronological account of the middle ages, but an episodic biography. Most of this appealed to me, except Chapters 8 (the Life of Thought) & 9 (focuses on art & music). That’s just my taste, though, & not a reflection on the author’s writing.Worth a read if you’re interested in the middle ages, unless you need something more scholarly.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Like your British grandfather telling stories by the fire. There are no notes or references, so who knows how accurate this is, but Bishop's a good storyteller.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A nice conscise history of the Middle Ages. The book covers chivalry, religion, philosophy, society, etc.
