About this audiobook

Three years ago, Alec McClane and Raegan Devereaux lived every parent’s worst nightmare: their one-year-old daughter, Emma, was abducted from a park when Alec turned his back for just a moment. Emma was never found, and presumed dead. The crushing trauma, plus Alec’s unbearable guilt, ended the couple’s marriage.

Now a four-year-old girl matching Emma’s profile is found wandering a local park. Alec and Raegan are heartbroken to discover she’s not their daughter but are newly motivated to find closure…and each secretly feels desperate to be in the other’s presence again.

Alec suspects his vengeful biological father is behind Emma’s disappearance. But as Raegan investigates other abductions in the area, she sees a pattern—and begins to wonder if Emma’s kidnapping is actually linked to something more sinister.

As Alec and Raegan race to uncover the truth, a long-burning spark rekindles into smoldering passion, and they realize they need each other now more than ever.

Elisabeth Naughton

Before topping multiple bestseller lists—including those of the New York Times, USA Today, and the Wall Street Journal—Elisabeth Naughton taught middle-school science. A voracious reader, she soon discovered she had a knack for creating stories with a chemistry of their own. The spark turned into a flame, and Naughton now writes full-time. When not dreaming up new stories, Naughton can be found spending time with her husband and three children in their western Oregon home. Unspeakable is the third book in her Deadly Secrets series, following Protected, Gone, and Repressed, which was a 2017 RITA winner in romantic suspense. I would like to thank NetGalley and Montlake Romance Publishing for the ARC of "Gone" by Elisabeth Naughton.I enjoyed this intriguing mysterious and romantic novel, and would highly recommend it. Two of the main characters Alec and Raegan are divorced after the stress of having their one year daughter kidnapped, several years before. Alec had their baby daughter Emily at the park when this happened. Elisabeth Naughton shows that both characters come from dysfunctional families. Alec's biological father was abusive and is in jail after using Alec for illegal activities. Alec was given a second chance with a wonderful family that adopted him. Raegan comes from a family of privilege that showed indifference. There are more kidnappings of other children and Raegan convinces Alec to help investigate. Both are hoping that they will get information about Emily. This novel has intrigue, adventure, mystery, danger, and romance.

Reagan and Alec's daughter, Emma, went missing from a park three years ago and after that their marriage broke up. They meet again when a four year old girl is found in a nearby park and the FBI asks them to come in and see if it is Emma. (it isn't). However, Reagan believes that there are links between many of the children going missing in the local area and she and Alec begin to investigate. This was a reasonably entertaining read, but I felt that everything came together too easily. Surely the FBI could/should have worked all this out...? Alec and Reagan's relationship also mended so easily, that you wondered that they ever got divorced in the first place.

Wow, this book grabbed me and held my attention throughout. I received this book for free and I voluntarily chose to review it. I've given this a 5* rating. Because of the violence it is not for the under 18 readers. This was a fast moving, action packed suspense story that addressed the issue of child abduction and some of the effects it has on the families that are involved. This is an issue that is, in fact, in today's news. It is filled with facts and all the emotion you can handle. This book blew me away and I look forward to many more of this author's work.

Alec and Raegan are living a parent's worst nightmare. When their toddler is taken from a playground on Alec's watch the sheer guilt and grief send them spinning out of orbit. Unable to overcome what he feels are his shortcomings, Alec pushes everyone as far away from him as he can. He's sure his father is the one responsible for what happened to his daughter and he can't afford for his vengeance to touch any of the people he loves.

But when a four year old girl resembling his Emma is found, hopes rise once more. And this time Raegan is determined not to allow him to push her away. As she digs deeper into the bevy of child kidnappings a distinct pattern appears. The only case that doesn't match is Emma's. Alec and Raegan are the only ones who understand what the loss of these children means to their parents. But the ones behind the missing children are ruthless and have power that far reaching. And they both must be prepared to risk everything to uncover the truth.

I received an Advanced Reader's Copy from NetGalley for voluntary review consideration.

This book had me riveted to the pages, and kept me turning, feeling all the time the injustice. Then we find out that there are more, how could someone do what we happening, and how can it be stopped? We find a couple very much in love, with the joy of a child in their mist, and then in the whisper of a second their lives are shattered. Their beloved child is gone, one thinks she is missing and the other she is dead, and thus the unit is shattered to the point of divorce. What brings these two back together is the same thing that separated them to begin with. Now there seems to be even more danger, and their little one is still “Gone”.The author had me on an emotional roller coaster from beginning to end, and let me tell you once you start reading; you have to get to the answers. This book will also linger with you, and make you think that maybe this is a true story.I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Montlake Romance, and was not required to give a positive review.
