About this audiobook
Have you ever dreamed of being locked in a department store at night? The endearing story of Corduroy paints a picture of the adventures that might unfold (for a teddy bear at least) in such a situation. When all the shoppers have gone home for the night, Corduroy climbs down from the shelf to look for his missing button.
It's a brave new world! He accidentally gets on an elevator that he thinks must be a mountain and sees the furniture section that he thinks must be a palace. He tries to pull a button off the mattress, but he ends up falling off the bed and knocking over a lamp. The night watchman hears the crash, finds Corduroy, and puts him back on the shelf downstairs.
The next morning, he finds that it's his lucky day! A little girl buys him with money she saved in her piggy bank and takes him home to her room. Corduroy decides that this must be home and that Lisa must be his friend. Youngsters will never get tired of this toy-comes-alive tale with a happy ending, so you may also want to seek out Dan Freeman's next creation, A Pocket for Corduroy.
A Live Oak Media audio production.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5The reader was quite slow, which would be fine for kids following along with a book. But for the rest of us, it drags.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Lovely short bedtime story for a child. Quite soothing. Not too upsetting to think about before falling asleep and a happy ending. The music intro/outro is a little loud.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Good story but not much plot. I wish Corduroy could have explored the store more before he was taken back to the toy department.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Another one I loved as a kid. A proto-Toy Story, with a little teddy who comes to life at night to look for a lost button in the hope that someone will buy him if he finds it. A girl buys him and loves him. All along the way, Corduroy discovers things he's wanted: to explore, to have a home. Kind of a nice subtle message that everything he wants to do olis exactly what he's doing.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This story is really good to share with kids about friendship and hope. Corduroy is teddy bear left on the shelf with one button until a little girl, Lisa, finds him and wants to take him home.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Such a cute little bear.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book is an entertaining books that tells the adventures of a teddy bear, named Corduroy, who comes to life. Children will automatically make a connection to the protagonist because it's a stuffed animal which they most likely will love. This is a good mystery book for children that can be used to make predictions because Corduroy's purpose is to find his missing button that could be anywhere in the mall where he lives. This is a classic book; it's lighthearted and adorable! It's heartwarming to see Corduroy find his new home with an owner and finally be loved.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book is an all-time classic! The book depicts a teddy bear who lives in the department store and is tired of living there all bored. A girl buys him the following the day and he is welcomed in his new home - the little girl's house. The children will love it and will want to read it again. I can use this book in my classroom library and also read it out loud or even let the students tell me the sequence of events in the book.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5All Corduroy wants is to be adopted, but he's missing a button! He goes in search of a button and he finds the furniture department. He tries to take a button off of a mattress, but it sends him flying into a lamp. The security guard takes him back downstairs to the toy department. The next day a little girl comes for him. This book is great for teaching personification and sequencing.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5“Corduroy” is the delightful story of a little bear who lives on a shelf in the toy department of a very large store, and the little girl who wants to take him home with her.But Corduroy is missing a button on his overalls, something that Mother thinks makes him a particularly poor choice for a purchase. Will Corduroy find his button? Will Lisa choose another toy? Who will become Corduroy's friend? In this tale, with its relatable characters, children will learn that it is not the cost of a thing, or the condition of that thing, that determines its true value. This narrative is, at its heart, a story that speaks to them of unconditional love. Both parents and children should find this endearing tale, with its enchanting illustrations, a favorite to enjoy together.Highly recommended.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Corduroy is a classic story about a teddy bear in a store. He wants to badly to be bought and to have a friend but he is missing a butting and thinks "nobody will want me if I'm defected". In the beginning of the book a little girl walks past and and asks her mom if she can buy him. Then the girls mother tells her no, and says that he is broken. That night Corduroy goes around the store and tries to find a button for his overalls. The book ends with the little girl coming back with cash to buy him and then when at home she fixes his button and he has a home. This book is great for kids just because of it being a classic. It could be incorporated into the classroom by creating a lesson, probably for the earlier ages, about being happy with yourself and who you are. Corduroy was sad about his missing button and thought that nobody would love him because of it and in the end, he found someone who loved him the way he was.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Corduroy is the story of a teddy bear who just wishes to be bought from the store. When a mother tells her daughter she can't buy Corduroy because he is missing a button, Corduroy goes on a mission to find himself one.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book is an excellent book about the importance of friendship, as well as accepting others for who they are. Corduroy goes in search of his missing button. The little girl's mother would not let her buy him because he is missing a button. The little girl comes back with her own money and purchases Corduroy and fixes him up, because she did not care what he looked like, she knew that she wanted him to be her friend.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Corduroy's a yare bear--exploring the upper floors of the department store, getting in shit with the night watchman, going home with a cool city kid who's not too cool to take a teddy bear home to her family's upscale brownstone and put him in a little bed and love him. (I like that she's black middle class--this book came out in 1976 so representations like this in kids' books were still not the norm I don' think). I like the cut of his jib, even if I'm not so much a fan of the "all the toys on the shelves waiting for a kid to love them and take them home" bit.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I loved this heartwarming book as a child
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is an amazing classic that should be on the bookshelves of every child and adult alike. Its a heartwarming story of a little toy bear missing a button from his overalls. I love the soft illustrations in addition to the sweet story.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I love reading this book to my two-year-old grandson now no less than I loved reading it to my own three children when they were young. This is a timeless story of a teddy bear who is less than perfect (his shoulder straps are missing one button), but who longs to find a forever home nonetheless. This book, first published in 1968, has a girl and mom who are black. I forgot about that! This is the little girl who bring the teddy bear named Corduroy to live at her house. Everyone needs to be loved...even a teddy bear! This book teaches the lesson to overlook flaws or to help correct them. It also has inspired my two-year-old grandson to want to learn the mechanics of attaching a button to something. Bravo!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A cute story of how a toy bear finds a home with a young girl after going on an adventure to find his missing button.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Summary: Corduroy is a teddy bear in a department store that is spotted by a little girl but the mother won't allow her to get it because he is missing a button on his overalls. When they leave Corduroy goes to find the button and finds a button in another department. The next day the girl comes back and buys the bear and fixes his overalls.Personal connection: This book made me curious if items actually came alive when I was younger. I felt bad for inventory that seemed damaged and would want to buy it. Class use: Talk about insecurities and how they are overlooked in friendship.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This book is good to teach the kids how to treat their friends all the same and with respect. Do not judge someone from their outward appearance.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This is such a sweet and inspiring story for young readers and even really older readers. It is a touching reminder that no matter the apperance of somebody, we should love it anyways. This is about a bear who lives in a toy store that just wants someone to take him home. When a girl finally picks him out, her mom said he looks ratty. The girl comes back the next day to buy him with her own money because she saw something special in the bear and loves him anyways. This is a great lesson for 1st graders.
