About this audiobook
After calling Ireland home for six months, Boston expat Maura Donovan still has a lot to learn about Irish ways-and Sullivan's Pub is her classroom. Maura didn't only inherit a business, she inherited a tight-knit community. And when a tragedy strikes, it's the talk of the pub. A local farmer, out for a stroll on the beach with his young son, has mysteriously disappeared. Did he drown? Kill himself? The child can say only that he saw a boat.
Everyone from the local gardai to the Coast Guard is scouring the Cork coast, but when a body is finally brought ashore, it's the wrong man. An accidental drowning or something more sinister? Trusting the words of the boy and listening to the suspicions of her employee Mick that the missing farmer might have run afoul of smugglers, Maura decides to investigate the deserted coves and isolated inlets for herself. But this time she may be getting in over her head . . .

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Sullivan’s Pub in Leap, Ireland is the area’s gossip central – and when a local dairy farmer goes missing, the pub is bustling. Always one to keep her ear tuned to the conversation, pub owner Maura Donovan, -- lately of Boston – soon begins to piece together what happened to him. It helps that just about everyone trusts her and wants to keep her in the loop. What she’s thinking about what happened to him is not good. But, what can she do? She’s new to the area and she doesn’t even know the missing man or his family. Then a body washes ashore and things get even more complicated. Maura’s friend Gillian, a talented but starving artist turns up in town pregnant. And, although she believes she’s keeping it a secret, no one is fooled and everyone knows just who the father is. Question is, will he give up his playboy ways and do the right thing – whatever the right thing is? Gillian isn’t certain.A Turn for the Bad is fourth in a wonderful cozy series. The whole premise is pretty high on the believability scale for cozies. And the characters seem real and wonderfully imperfect. Maura is a delightful heroine, brash in some ways, shy in others. And she’s baffled by the feelings she is beginning to have for her adopted home town.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I enjoyed Shelia Connolly’s latest title in her ‘County Cork Mystery’ series. The title, A TURN FOR THE BAD, had a bit of an edge to it and there was a bit of action, also. The characters seem to have matured and were pleasant company. I liked Ms. Connolly’s descriptions of County Cork, Ireland. Her ‘acknowledgments’ were interesting and I was very interested in the information on the West Cork Distillers. This info was woven into the story very well, and I am interested in trying out their products.I can’t say there was a lot of mystery to the story, but it was well-developed and plausible (somewhat plausible). The title made for enjoyable, light reading on a snowy day here in New England.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Maura is beginning to settle into her role as owner of Sullivan's pub. A man goes missing and his son is found in one of the coves. While much smuggling goes on, this man was just an honest farmer, and the only logical explanation is that he stumbled across something he should not have seen. A man's body turns up, but it is not this man. Can the garda find him? WIll Maura and her friends lend a hand? I enjoyed listening to this installment of the series. I enjoyed it more than previous ones.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Although I would classify this more as a suspense book, than a true mystery, this entry for the County Cork series is well-crafted and enjoyable. Am I the only one who would like more of Maura’s sarcastic inner voice? Even if so, I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I like Maura, the transplanted Bostonian to Leap, Ireland, now owner and running a pub. This storyline was a little ridiculous. A man goes missing on the beach, leaving his 3 yr old son, who says he saw a big boat. Maura and her friends at the pub plan a rescue to get him back from the drug smuggling pirates while keeping the police out of their plans.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5From what was a strong start I'm sad to say that-- to me-- Sheila Connolly's County Cork series is slowly running out of steam. In this fourth book nothing of substance happens until the halfway point, and then the most exciting part of the entire book takes place offstage.A minor plot point concerns Gillian the artist, but most of the action consists of the village hanging out at the pub while they wait for news about the missing farmer. Maura counts heads, pours endless cups of tea, bemoans the fact that no one is actually buying anything, and learns a bit about the history of the area.As it turns out, this community in which Maura lives knows more about what's really going on than Maura does. It has done from the start. But... Maura is the only one to roll up her sleeves and start putting things in motion. That didn't quite make sense to me in a book that was sadly lackluster. Am I going to continue with the series? I don't think so.
