On the eve of his 13th birthday, Oskari is sent out into the wilderness of Finland to hunt alone; what he brings back will determine what kind of man he will be. He is small for his age and is not able to successfully handle the large ancestral bow, but his dad who holds power with the village hunters, convinces them that he still should have his chance. Once alone in the wilderness, Oskari is narrowly missed by a crashing plane and stumbles upon an escape pod, carrying the president of the United States. With his knowledge of the wilderness, the boy leads the president through the dangers of the landscape and terrorist hunters who are after him. This is a fast-paced, exciting book- an excellent recommendation for reluctant readers in grades 5 & up. There is a movie out based upon this book, although it doesn't follow the book exactly, it is still thrilling.
