About this audiobook

A tragic accident took Rome Matthew's wife Diana and it robbed Sarah Harper of her best friend. Sarah has wanted to reach out to Rome, but she knew she needed to stay away, guarding the secret she had kept from him and Diana -- that she was in love with her best friend's husband. But now Rome needs her. Sarah agrees to be his wife, and something totally unexpected rekindles her hidden hope that a marriage of convenience will become a union of love. Will Rome keep fighting his own growing need for a woman who dares him to believe there are second chances in life...or will he give in to the power of love and miracles?

Sarah's Child is one of my favorite romance reads. I've read it twice and listened to the audio recording.

Linda Howard has a way with quiet, but strong heroines, and the alpha males that love them. I loved this book. There was a situation that bothered me concerning Rome and Sarah, though. Without giving anything away, logistically, the solution early on for an unexpected development was ludicrous. I also thought that Sara was giving too much of herself to mend a broken man with her love and not knowing if he will return the love at all. That's where my half star was taken off. I understood Rome's position, but it was still a pretty stupid solution. Again, Sarah took a lot and not understanding if the love was going to be enough for Rome. She gambles all of her life and will into the relationship when she has another option. But love made her bear and take all the pain that came before the healing began. I'm being vague, but anyone's who reads this will know. Mind you, it all changed, and we got a beautiful HEA.
My faith by this author to date remains 'After The Night', but this was excellent and originally published in the eighties! It gave me what recent romances seem to lack. Linda Howard is a beautiful writer and understands the concepts of life, reality, and happenings. I gave this book 4 stars and a half.

Not, brilliant, the characters are rather wooden, and the two leads had no chemistry between them. Hard to identify with them
