About this audiobook
What does it mean to be human? We've all heard it said: It's who you are that matters, not what you do. Really? Where do the scriptures teach that? After all, from the first page of the Bible forward, human beings were made to rule over the Earth, to gather up the raw materials of planet Earth, and to carve out a world.
Theologically rich yet down to earth and practical, Garden City speaks to all of us who are searching for our calling in life or just trying to find meaning in the everyday.
In the end this audio-book is an invitation to ask the ancient, primal, human question: Why am I here, and what should I do about it?

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Excellent! Every chapter is quality. So affirming of the work place.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I really enjoyed this book! My husband and I read it together — and, just like any of John Mark Comer’s books, we appreciated his practical way to teaching and revealing the word! Loved his thoughts on the Sabbath, especially as someone newly implementing that into my life as an Entrepreneur!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5John Mark does a detailed and intriguing job of pulling the reader into the Biblical categories of work and rest. This book was as challenging as it was refreshing. It helped me see my own work through a new lens. It helped me see where I was idolizing work, and where I was undervaluing what God values and overvaluing what He does not. I put this book up there with the other great works on “work”, namely “Every Good Endeavor” by Timothy Keller.
John is a relatable writer. Listening to the book is like sitting across the table at a coffee shop with a wise mentor just telling you what he knows.
In a day and age where Christians either overly desire retirement, under desire doing good work, or fail to see how even the simplest job matters in the grand scheme of things, this book is a necessary addition to the theology of work we need. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Amazing!! Challenging!! It gave me a new perspective on how to work & how to rest. 100% recommended
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Loved it. JMC IS MY FAVORITE. LETS BRING IT BACK TO THE GARDEN.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A really good message that is seldom taught in the church. The author leans toward the social justice side in his examples of evil in the world, but for the most part it is not obtrusive. A fun and encouraging read.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Fantastic book for ANYONE to read! Work, leisure and all in between. Recommend:)
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book is a life changer! Thank you John Mark
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5At first I was going to rate it a two or three stars as it sounded like the usual Christian doctrinal book but pretty soon it picked up to a new slant and became interesting, inspiring, challenging and revelatory of truth. Especially the different point of views expressed helped me to make sense of some passages that were... squeaky through the years. The author got my interest because of his vision and his point of view on things. I did appreciate his sense of humor too. Honestly I read it in one setting from cover to cover that much it grew on me. I recommend this book to visionary Christians, believers in love with God and not too rigid on dogmas, to those who are still questioning some of the gaps left there, looking for different inputs... I think this book has a few different revelations for you.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A must read! Love the author’s narration. I listened to this in less than a week because I couldn’t stop! It’s that good!
