About this audiobook

Once Leota's garden was a place of beauty - where flowers bloomed and hope thrived. It was her refuge from the deep wounds inflicted by a devastating war, her sanctuary where she knelt before a loving God and prayed for the children who couldn't understand her silent sacrifices. At eighty-four, Leota is alone; her beloved garden is in ruins. All her efforts to reconcile with her adult children have been fruitless. She voices her despair to a loving Father, her only friend. And God brings a wind of change through unlikely means: one, a college student who thinks he has all the answers; the other, the granddaughter Leota never hoped to know. But can the devastation wrought by keeping painful family secrets be repaired before she runs out of time?

Another Francine River's classic! This one roams through the hopes and dreams of one multi-generational family and brings up issues that are relevant today. Francine brings the characters to life. There are highs and lows and even an unexpected ending. The narrator brings you into the story. She uses voice infection well to give voice to the different characters. I will be sharing this book with my friends.

Loved the book. I would really love to see Corbain found Jesus and the lab technician, but I guess that's life for you. Not everyone will find their way.

    It’s a nice story.
It really shows the deepness of families love for each other, even when we really don’t want to love each other, because it hurts too much.

What a delightful story. I have heard it before, but sure don`t get tired of it. Thank you for the plan of salvation so clearly stated, and in such a great way. I love that fact that your great talent has been given to the Lord. He has richly blessed you!!

Dreadful. Utterly dreadful. Super repetitive themes and long drawn out narratives. Overkill on the spiritual appeal and awful approach to sensitive subjects like homosexuality and euthanasia.

This story is so fine, so true and so spirit lead. Thank you Francine Rivers. You are my favorite author.

Dysfunctional family at it's best, throw in a sociology student forced into interviewing an old person, four generations of secrets and misunderstandings, and a little romance. The bad part was the 18 year old Anne-Lynn was not really a very believable character, too mature and too saintly. Nora was a little too bad to be real, but Leota was wonderful. Also, a little TOO Christian. I skimmed through a lot of the Bible quotes.

I absolutely loved this book. I loved the daughter/mother and gandmother/granddaughter relationships and how they grew throughout the story! Sure the ending wasn't happily ever after, but it was the perfect ending for me. It brought closer to the story, but not the end of the story. She leaves itt open for you to continue, which I love.

I love this author and have read all her work. But I was REALLY frustrated and disappointed with the ending of this book. She did not give it a realistic NOR a satisfying ending. I won't give away the ending because that would be rude to you reading this but though her other books get 5 stars, this one does not!

Couldn't put this down. A story about broken lives and people and the effects of Christ's love on them. Very realisticly portrayed. There is no perfect happy ending here, but much hope. My favorite part of the story is the fact that it is about an old woman whose granddaughter comes to live with her. There were many places that hit home deeply. Fortunately, when I came to live with my grandmother, there were no broken relationships or misunderstandings to deal with. It was just joy and the regular trials of blending two seperate households into one. This book, I think, gave me insight into my Grammie's heart a bit.
