Theodosia Browning and her crowd are serving tea again in Charleston. Her best friend, Delaine Dish, is about to marry Theo's neighbor, Dougan Granville. Unfortunately, the groom turns up dead in his suite at the Ravenscrest Inn just before the wedding. Delaine begs Theo to conduct her own investigation, and off everyone goes! The regulars are all there: Drayton, Haley, and Bert Tidwell. Plus, a couple of ghost hunters are added in for the occasion. Theo's new love interest, Max, makes a brief appearance, but he is pretty much ignored in this outing. While this may not be the strongest entry in the ongoing series, regular readers will not want to miss it. The story is good and so are the recipes, as usual. If only the Indigo Tea Room actually existed! I so want to go to Charleston and eat there!

Rating: 4Highly recommended. It's a fast-paced "cozy" murder mystery in the Tea Shop series by Laura Childs and one of the better books in the series. Some in the series have very predictable villains, but not this one. It's a take on the "butler did it" theme, but I was taken by surprise at the identity of the murderer.
Rating: 4Sweet Tea Revenge is the 14th book in the A Tea Shop Mystery series. It's always a treat for me to enter the cozy confines of the Indigo Tea Shop. Child's writing puts me right inside the store and I can literally see Theodosia, Haley, and Drayton scurrying around helping the customers of shop.
Delaine Dish has asked Theodosia to be a bridesmaid at her wedding. the wedding day has arrived and as time is approaching for the ceremony, Theodosia goes to Dougan Granville, the groom, and finds him dead with his nose close to unknown powder. What with a heated argument have being heard between the couple just a couple hours earlier, Delaine immediately becomes a person of interest. Of course Delaine asks Theodosia to do her own little investigation, much to Detective Tidwell's disapproval.
As Theodosia is organizing her thoughts on how to proceed with her inquiries, Jed and Tim Beckman arrive at Ravencrest Inn. Jed and Tim and want to film at Ravencrest for a segment Southern Hauntings. They excited to hear a death has just occurred, because they feel there is a better chance of making contact with the spirit world. Theodosia is reluctant to allow it, hopes that they may be of some help.
As Theodosia starts getting involved, she finds out that Dougan's estranged stepson wants into the law firm that Dougan is a partner in. From Delaine, she learns that Allan Grumley, the other partner in the law firm, seems hesitant to share with Delaine the terms of Dougan Will.
Child's once again kept me guessing to end of the book.

First Line: Rain slashed against stained-glass windows and thunder shook the rafters as Theodosia Browning hurried up the back staircase of Ravencrest Inn. Charleston, South Carolina, tea shop owner Theodosia Browning is late to her friend Delaine Dish's wedding, but that turns out not to be a problem. You see, the groom is stone cold dead in his room at the wedding venue, the Ravencrest Inn. A killer has crashed Delaine's nuptials before the "Wedding March" ever had a chance to start. Now Theodosia has to sort the suspects (Bride or Groom?) in an attempt to find the killer before the killer plans a reception for her.I began reading Laura Childs' Tea Shop mysteries when she first began writing them. I loved the Charleston setting and the quirky, edgy characters were fun. Unfortunately that was several books ago in this--so far-- fourteen-book series. When I dove headfirst into this latest book, Charleston was as I remembered it, but the delightful characters seem to have lost a bit of their edge, and the mystery was rather perfunctory. I think one of the things that surprised me most was the fact that one of the shallowest characters in this series-- Delaine Dish-- has graduated to being one of Theodosia's "dear friends." For me, Delaine is much too unlikable to focus a mystery upon. Frankly, my dear, I don't much care how upset she gets or which poor soul she's led into marriage. (Bless my heart, aren't I the cold-hearted reader!) Theodosia has a new beau, Max, and she's evidently devoted to him, but he's scarcely seen or heard throughout the entire book. In fact, I'm wondering if-- with the inclusion of a new man showing lots of interest in the main character-- if Theodosia might have a few man troubles in a future book? That might certainly spice things up!Besides the fact that the book is focused on a very shallow character, the mystery seems a bit thin on the ground, with fewer than normal twists, turns, and red herrings. Sweet Tea Revenge is a light, quick, enjoyable read, but it doesn't quite stand up with the earlier books in the series. It will be interesting to see what happens next.
Rating: 3Once again, a quick and unbelievable ending to one of my fave series books. The foray into ghost hunting and horror-movie settings is just not my "cup of tea." If I wanted that, I would read horror books, which I avoid. I love Tidwell, Drayton and Haley, but Theo annoys me greatly sometimes. She takes stupid chances that no sane person would take. Her boyfriend Max really played a minor role in this book too. The plot seemed unreasonable--murder over four cases of cigars and a boyfriend, by a very minor character? The latest in the series has followed this same pattern--I like the earlier ones in the series better, and do not see the need to descend into horror novel tactics to get readership.
Rating: 4I’ve read several of Laura Child’s books, including the Tea Shop Series, and was very disappointed in SWEET TEA REVENGE. The day of Theodosia’s friend Delaine’s wedding (they’ve been engaged for four weeks), the groom is late. Theodosia finds him in his room at the Inn, cold and pulseless, white powder on a table next to him. Further investigation reveals that he has also been hit on the head turning his death into a homicide. Since his death had been recent, how cold could his body have been?As usual, Theo works with Detective Tidwell. As usual, she and her friends don’t think much of his crime solving abilities (they expect the murderer to be caught with a few hours) and Theo gets involved. While she does check out several suspects, some of their extreme negative reactions to her and Delaine are not explained. She also finds some evidence that the police missed and removes it, placing it into an envelope and giving it to them, jeopardizing it’s reliability as evidence.Two days after the murder, Delaine asks Theo to help prepare the groom’s house, which is next door to Theo’s, for the annual garden tour. It would seem that all the arrangements would have been made much earlier.There are sections dealing with the Tea Room and about clothes as well as some ghost chasing. I don’t understand why neither Theodosia never seems to know what Haley is planning for the food every day. Doesn’t she have to buy the food? The recipes and party plans at the end are not exciting but the list of tea resources is helpful.There isn’t much serious investigation and the ending almost comes from thin air and ends quite suddenly.SWEET TEA REVENGE is a quick read and only slightly satisfying. Laura Childs can and has done better.
Rating: 3I find the Tea Shop mystery series refreshing. I enjoy the journey around historic Charleston, and the chance to glimpse Charleston society. I adore the different blends of teas and Haley culinary skills. I despair over Theodosia's love life. Theo seems too busy with solving mysteries to have a steamy affair. A government agent lovingly scans Theo, but she is too busy with Delaine's life to have her own life. The most important man in Theo's life is Drayton, and he is too old. This is not a scary or graphic mystery, but still a pleasant read.
Rating: 3This is another solid installment in Laura Childs' cozy series featuring tearoom owner Theodosia Browning as sleuth. It's Delaine's wedding day, but when the groom has not shown up even though he's at the location, Theodosia goes to his room at a rather unappealing venue. There are quite a few suspects, most of whom the reader would enjoy being the perpetrator. The dead man's house is on a home tour so Delaine arranges for Theodosia's shop to cater the event. There's also an interesting ghost hunting duo in town, a repulsive ATF agent, and much more. As usual, the teas and baked goods sound wonderful. It's really too bad the shop is fictitious because I'd dearly love to visit it and sample some of Haley's creations. There are several recipes at the end of the book that I plan to try.

Because of her penchant for solving mysteries, Delaine convinces Theo to run her own investigation at the same time as she is being wooed by ghost hunters.The story was entertaining, the events that carried the mystery engaging, and the characters (old friends) were cheering.I always feel so special when I receive the new books from Laura Childs asking for my opinion about her new books. This one definitely didn't disappoint.
