      Let’s talk about love triangles for a moment: I am really not a fan of them. If they’re handled well, then fine, I can stomach them. However, the trend in a lot of romances and young adult (especially in recent years) is to shove two guys into the reader’s face, with a clear favorite and use that as ~drama~. And that I cannot stand.

      Which brings us to Darkest Hour. While the first two books did have a slight love triangle subplot (in the form of guy crushes on Suze, ends up being driven away due to her position as a mediator; book 3 had a different situation), this book sets up the main arc for the second half of the series with Paul. Again, the biggest problem I have in this is that Carmel always turns out to be Mediator City, USA when we learn that Jack (and later, his brother) are both mediators. (Again, how did Suze not know about anyone else in Manhattan who had the same powers? I can understand her not wanting to talk about it, but still, I find it very doubtful.) The one thing I enjoyed about this is Jesse’s backstory, and how we learn more about his short life. I liked that he gets some sense of closure, even if he doesn’t end up leaving the mortal realm. However, Paul is a really undeveloped character, and using him as an antagonist in this does come out of left field. It feels more like a filler book than the previous two entries, even though a lot of plot points are set up in here.

      I liked how unpredictable this book was. I couldn't wait to see what would happen. I love the characters and the light-heartedness despite some crazy situations.

      Young Adult book, very interesting story line. Had to read all of the books one after another. Young girl that has the ability to see ghosts. She actually shares her room with one. This story follows this relationship along a rollercoaster of emotions and problems. Only to find that love with prevail.

      Did not make a ton of sense, Suze was mean in it, and I hate Paul.

      Poor Suze has to get a summer job. Sleepy gets her one at the hotel where he works and she ends up a hotel babysitter for the summer. She ends up the favorite of a married couple who have two children--a snarky (and cute) teenager her age and the little boy she babysits. Jack, the little boy, doesn't like to go outside, doesn't swim, doesn't have fun as far as Suze can tell and she decides to change this, mostly out of boredom and a desire to be at the pool for part of the summer. The reason Jack doesn't want to go outside is becasue, like Suze, he sees ghosts. Suze shows him not to be afraid, teaches him to swim, and becomes quite the hero to his neglectful parents.

      Meanwhile, Maria, the woman Jesse was supposed to marry is coming around threatening Suze, telling her to get her stepfather to stop diggin the hole for their new hot tub or else. Turns out she wanted them to stop digging because she didn't want Jesse's body to be found. Of course it is and of course Suze ends up with yet another date (this time with Paul, Jack's older brother) ruined by coming home and seeing the remains then vomiting against the side of her house. Between Maria's threats and haunting and Paul's persistence, and the fear that Jesse will move on now that his body has been discovered Suze has way more problems than a summer job.

Meg Cabot's Mediator series book, Darkest Hour is an engaging read, which will divert your attention, and tempt you to complete the book. It will leave you in eagerness, anticipation, and impatience until it is finished. Suze can see ghosts. As if that isn't enough, she has to help them finish their incomplete business, so they can continue on to their next life. This ghost Jesse, who resides in Suze's room is determined not to tell her about his death. But when Suze's family start digging up their backyard, everything changes. They uncover a body which belonged to owners who lived 150 years ago. Suze is insanely upset about finding the body. Her family thinks she is grossed out, but is it that? Or does the body belong to someone... particulary a ghost? After uncovering that body, old secrets come back to haunt Suze. What does the dead fiance of Jesse and her husband want from Suze? They don't have anything to hide...or do they? She has to announce the secret about Maria de Silva, the dead fiance of Jesse, to everyone in time, the truth which killed all the previous people who tried to uncover the secret. The dangerous truth which has been hidden since 150 years. But the truth has to do with the death of Jesse, and it shouldn 't concern them...unless they killed him. Suze has to finish off the furious and evil spirits, or she is putting herself and everyone around in danger. On top of that, she has to comfort Jack, a yound mediator, that everything will be alright. But when Jack's older brother, Paul, takes an interest in Suze she thinks it is just a crush, but is it? The Later events lead on to completely change that thought. With Jesse still not saying anything about his past, and then suddenly disappearing, it is up to Suze to uncover the deadly secrets and save everything and everyone in time. But with every ticking second closer to the revealing, Suze is getting nervous, because the plan includes probably losing Jesse forever. With new feelings stirring up inside of her, strong feelings which involve Jesse, she realizes she can't lose Jesse, she just can't. So what will Suze do? Find out in this intruiging and suspenseful book. I recommend this to all mystery, and suspense lovers out there. This book is a capturing page-turner, with a new reveal in each page. Either you are discovering a shocking death of a certain ghost, like Jesse, or discovering that there is more than what appears to be, like Paul. Through the book, you will willingly follow every action of Suze and live inside her world as you get to discover shocking details. I enjoyed this book alot because, it is one of those rare books which grabbed my attention until it was finished. If given a chance, I'm sure it will become a favorite of many readers out there.

      PLOT OR PREMISE:Suzannah is a mediator -- she helps ghosts move on from this plane to the next. But when she's not embracing her sixth sense, she's earning money as a staff babysitter at a hotel/resort and dreaming about Jesse who haunts her current home. Then she meets trouble in the form of spoiled brat Jack who can also see ghosts, but doesn't know that ghosts are actually real and is instead three steps away from a nervous breakdown. Suze has to help him figure out his own role with ghosts, at the same time that she tries to figure out more of the mystery with Jesse's past life..WHAT I LIKED:I really liked the idea of finding newbies who don't know what they are supposed to do when it comes to ghosts -- hey, didn't they see the movie? I also still like the fact that Suze can actually interact with the ghosts (i.e. fight with them). The backstory for Jesse was cool, and knowing that Suze can move to another plane at least temporarily is really a good omen for future books. The interesting addition of negative mediators to counter-balance is very Tru Calling-ish, and we'll have to see how that plays out in future books..WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE:Some of the repeated teenage angst might sit well with teenage readers, but it gets really repetitive fast for older readers..BOTTOM-LINE:Oh, no, it's ghosts again!.DISCLOSURE:I received no compensation, not even a free copy, in exchange for this review.       Teenaged Suze can talk to ghosts, kick butt, *and* look good in a swimsuit. But when the ghost of her best friend is threatened by his murderers, she needs to go beyond her usual methods. This book doesn't fit the same pattern of the last three Mediator books, thankfully. It opens up new questions about the afterlife and Suze's powers.

      The Mediator Series by Meg Cabot is about a girl that can see ghosts. This becomes a little tricky when she moves from New York to California only to find a gorgeous ghost is already living in her bedroom. Not only does Suze have to deal with Jesse there is another ghost trying to kill people at her school. I loved these books, Suze was so down to earth and Jesse was so crushable.

      When Suze is woken up by having a knife held to her throat by the long deceased fiancée to the ghost she is crushing on, she knows she's in for a bad day. Surprisingly amongst the bad (having to get up early for work, having to dress in butt expanding khaki shorts and the like) Suze finds a diamond in the rough in the form of a pint sized fellow mediator. This one bright spot of the summer quickly fades when a 150 year old corpse is dug up out of Suze's backyard and her favorite friendly (if frustrating) ghost disappears.Yup, another great entry into the series and another one with some very great short scenes. Especially the one where Jesse discovers Suze hiding out in Doc's bed with a variety of construction implements. My only complaint was that after the introduction of such a cute character in Jack that we unfortunately do not see again after this volume.

      Being a mediator is looking to be not as rare as was first thought by Suze! I like the continuing development of Suze & Jesse, as well as getting to know Jesse's background. This book sets up a recurring "bad guy" - wonder how long he will stick around? Guess I'll have to keep reading!
