About this audiobook

Between baking up a storm for The Cookie Jar and unraveling the mystery of her cat Moishe’s recent strange behavior, Hannah Swensen has a lot on her plate. But she’ll always make time for her business partner, Lisa, who’s in the midst of preparing for a big family reunion. Everyone is delighted when Lisa’s long-lost uncle makes a surprise appearance. No one has heard from Gus in twenty-five years.

Uncle Gus is immediately the hit of the reunion. He’s almost as popular as Hannah’s scrumptious carrot cake, which is also Gus’s favorite dessert. But the next morning, as the whole family gathers for the group photo, one person is missing. Hannah offers to track down Uncle Gus, but her search leads to a shocking find. Over by the bar at the pavilion, she spots two slices of her infamous carrot cake, frosting-side down on the floor—and Gus’s corpse with an ice pick jutting out of his chest!

Now Hannah’s got to sift through a long list of suspects to find a killer—even if it could mean a recipe for her own demise …

Great cozy mystery. Perfect book to curl up with in the recliner with a big cup of hot chocolate. In this book, Hannah's business partner, Lisa is having a huge family reunion with family coming in from all over. Long lost Uncle Gus shows up and is welcomed back into the family fold. All is well until he is found dead. Hannah gets right on the case and finds out all is not as sweet as everyone thought. Uncle Gus had some serious enemies within the family. It's up to Hannah to find out who killed Uncle Gus...

It’s summer and Hannah is busy baking and running around. She gets involved helping with a family reunion, and when a long-lost family arrives only to be killed, well, Hannah just has to find the killer. Her partner Lisa is afraid that her father may be a person of interest to the police, but since he has Alzheimer’s disease, he really can’t remember what happened the night Gus died. Regular readers will enjoy the interaction between the characters, but the solution to the murder seems a bit thin. Still, the story is enjoyable, and the characters are delightful. Norman is wonderful, Mike is obnoxious, and Moisha the cat is entertaining.

A family reunion for Lisa and Herb brings a crowd of people to Eden Lake, Minnesota. An unexpected arrival, Herb’s Uncle Gus, turns out to be not so welcome . . . and ends up being the body that Hannah [naturally] discovers. The good folks of Eden Lake welcome readers in this, the tenth story in the series. All the expected characters are in place; the newcomers have arrived for the family reunion. Readers will be pleased to know that some things [most things] in Eden Lake never change: Hannah still jumps right into investigating the murder; Hannah still hasn’t made her decision between Norman and Mike [and, to complicate matters, Ross now seems to be in contention]. To keep the baking readers happy, there are a plethora of recipes, and Eden Lake, thank goodness, is still small-town sweet and friendly. Fans of the series will find much to appreciate in this installment.

This time out, Hannah Swensen is trying to figure out why Moishe, her cat, is acting strange. He had become over active and destructive. Normally he was a mellow, always hungry, loving fellow. While this is going on on her home front, the big event is the big family reunion her business partner, Lisa, has arranged. Newlywed Lisa has organized a multi-generational reunion of hers and her husband, Herb's family. What really sets it off is the appearance of her Uncle Gus. Gus had left town, years ago, without any explanation and no one knew where he had gone. The family was delighted Gus showed up. Now they would get some answers. There was one problem with Gus's return, someone didn't want him there and solved the problem. Once again Hannah finds a body; and has a long list of suspects to work through. Keeping up with supplying dishes for the weekend event, learning of scandals that run through the families' histories, and trying to see what is making Moishe act weird makes for a busy schedule for Hannah. There are also quite a few recipes to be found in the book. Not just cookies, as usual, but some picnic dishes too. I've yet to try any, but I do find that I at least skim them. This is a cozy series and the main characters are becoming old friends.

Carrot cake murder by Joanne FlukeA reunion of Lisas relatives and when the whole clan gets together for the photo one uncle is missing. Hannah puts the clues together with help from her family and friends as they question everybody as to where they were at the time of the murder and discovering who and why they'd want the uncle dead.Love the recipes during the chapters but she has to be careful as others might want her dead also.Love this series and the dentist Norman and cop Mike wanting her to be their girlfriend.I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).

Although the mystery was good, it was a bit of a disappointment in the end. Regardless, the story was quite good and held my interest. I love the characters in this series.

I thought this was better than Cherry Cheesecake Murder--better job of using red herrings, and better climatic scene. Also really felt like relationships between characters were working here, and loved the fact that the love triangle (quadrangle?) didn't feel stale. Oh, and it seemed like there were more recipes, which is nice. Wish publishers would take these and put them into a special book, or maybe offer some kind of special deal where they come on recipe cards or binder pages or something...

I had some ill will towards this book early on. Mainly because of that dratted cat, Moishe. He is too aggravating, and quite a few of Hannah Swensen books in the not so distant past clinched one star because of his 'adventures'. I wish someone would immolate that cat. Anyway this book is the first genuine book in the series to earn four stars from moi. Candy Cane Murder doesn't count. It seems strange that the same English words found in the dictionary, when arranged by a skilled writer, can generate so much pleasure. Often the conversation went off at a tangent, so much that I can't really classify this story as a bona fide mystery. It's really a slice of life book, if I may borrow from the manga community. That's it for now, and please don't focus on my catty remarks earlier!

This book was enjoyable. I have come to really like the characters. This book is a fun read. It is not a heavy murder mystery, a good one to read when you don't have time for a heavier book. I like the lightness of the mystery and of course the recipes are very appetizing. Hannah of course can not figure out who she loves more which keep me wanting to read more of Joanne's books just to find out if she will choose between the two of the guys she currently cares for or will she completely find another man who she can be completely devoted to? Will Moishe and Hannah's mother ever get along? I guess I will keep reading to find out.

I really like the Hannah Swenson cozy mysteries. I love the recipes(although I haven't tried any of them yet they all sound delicious). I love Hannah and her relationship with her sisters. I love how the little town Lake Eden is always celebrating something it seems. This time it is a fmaily reunion for the families of Lisa and Herb. Guess who shows up? Long lost Gus, who left town years ago without a word to anyone and oweing several people money and getting into a fight with Lisa's dad. Gus is rich now and is flashing around his money, clothes and car. Hannah is helping out by cooking and baking like she always does. She especially made a carrot cake for Gus at the request of his sister. It's Family Picture time and no one can find Gus so Hannah is sent to find him and find him she does. He is in the pavilion dead in the middle of her carrot cake.Who would kill Gus? There is a long suspect list. Seems Gus made alot of enemies.Mike makes a deal to share his info with Hannah if she will share her's with him. But will He?And why is Moishe the cat acting out?As usual I had no idea who did it till the very end.

This recipe needs to be changed, I have loved Hannah, her family, nd the townies since I first read "Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder". I knew right away the books were easy reads...lots of fluff and nothing I would ponder after I shut the book on the final page. A Hannah Swenson Mystery has a recipe much like the goodies baked in Hannah's bakery. The ingredients: Hannah, her two boyfriends, Mike and Norman, her annoying mother and puritan sisters, Moishe her kitty, recipes throughout the story, and a murder victim found with the dessert of the day nearby. Mix the ingredients well until Hannah still waivers between both boyfriends (although the men don't mind sharing), no one turns a head over Hannah investigating and finding things the cops don't, and Moishe has some kind of kitty drama. Bake until golden brown: Hannah finds the murderer right before something terrible happens and narrowly escapes death...all within just a few pages. Now I don't mind most of this recipe...really it is a cozy murder and its going to be based on formula. However, the thing that bothers me is that nothing ever changes...Hannah never grows in her relationship with one of the men and the men never tire of being part of a love triangle. No one smokes, cusses, or has sex. You can't even hint that anyone in town does any of those things because the town if full of a bunch of prudes. I don't need those things in my books, but I also don't like how unrealistic the world is portrayed. The books are fun, they are cute and until the last few, they have been well worth my time to read. Fluke would go a long was with appeasing her weary readers if she would just resolve the Mike/Norman/Hannah issue one way or another. This is one recipe that has just gone stale.

Another tasty treat from Ms. Fluke. Her Hannah Swenson series is a winner, and I know I really enjoy it. This is a particularly strong book this time. And we have all that we have come to expect from Ms. Fluke-great characterization, a killer plot and a neat little mystery to solve. As well as lots of quite delicious recipes. I read this series because I love Hannah and her friends and family so much, but I truly enjoy the stories too. I am sad because I am caught up now in this series, and now have to wait for the next book which is to come out sometime early next year. This book is set at the Lake Eden resort and Hannah is involved with her business partner Lisa's family reunion, when a long-lost family member returns to the family fold, and then is found dead. Hannah must figure out what has happened, and she does so with the help of her sisters and Norman. This is a great cozy series!

As usual this series never disappoints me! I Love my "friends" at Lake Eden. :) The only things stopping this from being a 5 rating was that there were quite a few typos which made me nuts..
