Actually, 3. 5 for the story but rounded up for the fabulous narration. the plot is a little bit nonsensical but the heroine is incredibly forthright and modern despite the setting, and the hero, while stoic, takes a secondary role, which is quite refreshing.
Be warned, the bedroom scenes are very explicit, some bordering on icky in their explicitness, and if you like traditional regent type romances, you might find the heroine's actions surprising and her family's reactions not quite historical but this is an easy enjoyable romance romp.

Summary Honor and her sisters are in dire circumstances. Her nemesis, is going to marry her brother, Augustine, and she has made threats toward Honor, her mother and her sisters. Their mother is suffering from memory loss, and with their step father sick and soon to die, they know that their lives are about to change, and that they must take action. So Honor comes up with a plan, she will convince George Easton, a scoundrel, to try to seduce her brothers fiancée. George Easton, is a third son, and despite his parentage, he is poor, and has devoted all of his funds toward a shipping endeavor, but if he loses that ship, he will lose everything, except what he makes at the gaming tables. Which is where he first meets Honor Cabot. Honor is unlike any other woman he has ever known, she is daring and beautiful and knows just how to get him to cooperate. He realizes that life will never be easy with her at the helm, but he also knows he can’t get her out of his mind. But George has nothing to give Honor, except his name and a few hundred pounds, will Honor be able to give up her life of parties and gowns and financial security to be with the man she loves..The Hero George Easton, knows his place in society and it’s toward the bottom. He doesn’t have high standing, considering the fact that he has small funds, one town house, and supports himself at the gaming tables. George Easton is a bastard, and as such is only considered good for a few things…and that isn’t a place in high society. George Easton is a character I didn’t understand that much. I really liked him, and at first he seems very practical and determined, but he goes along with Honor’s illogical ploys, and it just didn’t fit with him…but I figure men act silly when a beautiful woman is involved and tend not to act like their logical selves. But what I did like about George was his drive to succeed, even when he makes reckless actions, his character is written in such a way that you just can’t help but like him.The Heroine Honor is in a bad situation, and even though she is the least practical person, she is determined to do what it takes to protect her family from a woman that would kick them to Europe or the America’s…just to get them out-of-the-way. You see honor’s love and drive to protect those she loves…even in the most ridiculous ways that she goes about it. But even though she could seem very immature at times, and silly, I felt respect for her character. In the story we are put in her mind more, and we what drives her, and she does have good intentions, and despite everything I loved that about her. The way she loves her family and would do anything for them except get married. We see how she likes to do things the hard way…but a very entertaining way though.Plot and Story Line Trouble With Honor is the first book…and what a fun romance this was. I had read mixed reviews and ratings about this one, but I like Julia London, and it was a cheap audio book, so I thought it would be good to give it a chance…and I did. At first I will admit the story seemed to drag a bit, but one aspect I have noticed about Julia London’s book you have to give them some time before you get into it and boy am I glad that I stuck with this one, because I adored this story and the narrator is just fabumous…I have listened to other books she has narrated and she is very talented is accents and in portraying the characterizations. There is one thing I just loved about this book…was how George and Honor clicked together. They fit perfectly especially in moments that they don’t realize it. One of my favorite aspects of this story was the way the romance develops because it was different. This pair first meets at the gaming tables, and there is some fiery sparks, but somehow those sparks don’t die despite their difference in positions. What was great about this pair, was how they work hand in hand in such a harmonious way, and especially the first half of the story they don’t see how well they do together. I love that it creeps up on them, and before they realize it…they fall hard for each other. What really got to me was the last part of the story (don’t worry I won’t reveal anything) but it got me emotionally involved, and I so wanted these two to find a way to be together…because they deserved it and they need each other. And they do fight for each other, and even if you have reservations about the heroine…by the end of the book your view changes drastically…it did for me anyway, I love how she fights for love and for what she really wants, and not bow to society’s dictates. This is a romance that slowly won my heart over, in a very dramatic way of course…but nonetheless it happened and I am so thrilled to have discovered this book and I can’t wait to listen to Grace’s story, especially when we get a little tease about her at the end.The CoverThere are two covers for this book, the newer one matches the series so I put that one up, because I like the couple poses…and I love this one. I love her dress, it’s so pretty and elegant, and I love the pose here, with is hand on her neck—*shivers down the spine* how I love that.Overall View The Trouble With Honor is a story that will surprise, shock and delight you from beginning to end. With its unique characters, delectable plot, sensational romance, a fun and entertaining story that will captivate you!! A LIVELY REGENCY ROMANCE!!

The Trouble with Honor, the first novel in Julia London's The Cabot Sisters series, is a delightfully charming historical romance. This sparkling gem is full of appealing characters but it is the fun storyline and deliciously steamy encounters that kept me captivated from beginning to end.

With her stepfather's rapidly failing health and her stepbrother's impending marriage, Honor Cabot devises an outrageous scheme to save her family from financial ruin. Her mother's swiftly deteriorating health is the impetus behind Honor and her sister Grace's fears for future of their small family and Honor enlists the aid of George Easton to help convince her stepbrother's fiancée to reconsider her upcoming marriage.

Honor is in her early twenties and having had her heart broken in the past, she has steered clear of romantic entanglements so it is easy to believe she is frivolous and a little shallow. But lurking behind Honor's carefree exterior is a very determined young woman who is fiercely devoted to her loved ones. Stubborn, headstrong and quite feisty, she is also very kindhearted and quite loving. Honor cares deeply for her stepbrother, Augustine, but she also knows how easily manipulated he can be by his fiancée, Monica. It is her desperation to protect her mother that drives Honor to devise her plan to come between Augustine and Monica but Monica is surprisingly resistant to George's charms. And then there's the matter of Honor's surprising attraction to George...

The illegitimate son of a chambermaid and a Duke, all George has ever desired is to be accepted by society. He has achieved a measure of success by investing in risky ventures and for much of the novel, he is on the brink of financial ruin when his latest undertaking appears to have gone awry. While George may not be entertained in polite society, he is quite popular with the ladies, and in fact, he is a bit of a rake. But he is a rake with a conscience, and at first, he is quite hesitant to woo Monica from Augustine. But Honor is pretty persuasive and since she does not want George to actually seduce Monica, George reluctantly agrees to go along with Honor's plan.

George and Honor are wonderful protagonists and I really enjoyed watching them match wits. Honor is certainly a force to be reckoned with and George is certainly up to the task of resisting her manipulations. The chemistry between them is palpable and their scenes are underscored with a delicious sexual tension.

The plot of The Trouble with Honor is refreshingly unique and the characters are well-developed and likable. George and Honor are wonderfully imperfect with insecurities and flaws that are easy to relate to. Julia London adroitly avoids the usual romance clichés and even the "evil" secondary cast of characters is appealing and sympathetic. A truly enjoyable read that leaves me eager for the next installment in the Cabot Sisters series.

    Wow! This book was great!
I won this book through Goodreads First Reads.
I'm horrible at writing reviews, but here goes...
The Trouble with Honor is about Honor (obviously). She is very wealthy, has a high status, and lives with her three younger sisters, and her sick mother. One day, her stepbrother decides to get married to a girl, Monica. Problem: Monica doesn't want to share a house with Honor's family. Unfortunately for Honor, she doesn't want to get married yet, so she can't take care of her family if she gets kicked out of the house. Her solution: find someone handsome enough to make Monica change her mind about the wedding. Her someone is George Easton, known for his good looks and his ability to make all women fall head over heels for him. Over the course of this book, another problem arises: Honor finds herself liking George more than she should, and her scheme starts to fall apart.
Any who...that's the gist of it...
This was my first historical fiction, and I absolutely loved it. I loved so many things about this book. Gosh, where to start, where to start? Well, for one, I liked how all of Honor's sister's names are a virtue: Grace, Prudence, and Mercy. I also liked that it was a very fun, and easy read, I especially loved reading the conversations between Honor and George. How they talked of Honor's boldness, and how much they loved each other. The one thing that kinda frustrated me was the ending. Honor had her happy ending, but I got to know a little bit more about Grace, which was nice, but then it ends with a scene that slightly confused me. It left me with a cliffhanger...I will definitely be reading the next one because of that ending.

Not a bad introduction of the four Cabot sisters, but I found the book only okay, nothing too exciting. I found Honor to be a little to pushy to the point that I didn't really like her for the first half of the book. After a few more encounters with George and even with her mother I found her much more likable. George I liked right away, probably because I really like reading about the undesirable members of the Ton and you can't be more undesirable then being an illegitimate peer. Their story was nothing I haven't read before in this genre, but it was entertaining enough to keep my interest. Will read the next book in the series about Grace since the little tease of the last chapter in this book has definitely peaked my interest in her story. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.

Excellent! Vivacious debutante meets decided rake!Honor, Honor, Honor! What are you up to?It all began with a game of cards! Then there was the bonnet affair. This certainly blew the lid off the childhood angst between Honor Cabot and her step brother's fiancé, Monica Hargrove. Then there was George Easton himself, illegitimate son of a Duke and nephew of a Prince. As Honor was won't to say, she was a swashbuckler at heart, as was George. So when these two meet, the odds against conformity escalate. Indeed, that first meeting is most memorable! And now Honor's mother is showing signs of slipping into madness and Monica is encouraging the idea of Honor and her sisters into marriages or seclusion. After all, does Monica really want her life cluttered up with all these women. Or at least that's what Monica's mother intimates.Just what is Honor to do?Why, a mad start of an idea of course! and after all, George Easton does owe her. And this idea will aim a blow at Monica's pretensions!I smiled at Honor's audacity and on at least one occasion I cried at her courage.Honor, Honor, Honor! What shall become of you?A somewhat different and very enjoyable read!A NetGalley ARC

This was a great start for the Cobot Sisters series. I enjoyed it very much.Honor Cobot at times was very forward for a debutante, but I liked her very much for her feisty ways, but sometimes she sounded a little selfish. She was very loyal and did worry about her mother and sisters. Losing their home and usual comforts when her brother got married was a big worry. After meeting George Easton, a gambler and womanizer, she asks him to help her out. A diversion for her brothers fiancé might be just the thing. George was a great character, not the usual arrogant Lord which was a nice change, and but not always that confidant. Honor and George made a great couple together, and when they got romantic it was very hot. This was a fun book to read, and I'm eagerly awaiting for more from the Cobot Sisters series .I received a free copy of this book from the Author in exchange for an honest review.

This series debut about four sisters introduces a lovely set of characters focused solely on romantic pursuits- no supernatural or suspense subplots here. I enjoyed this well-written romance primarily because I enjoyed the hero and heroine. Honor is nowhere near as flighty as she seems in the beginning, and I feel her desperation as she tries to find a way to protect her mother and sisters from dramatic life changes. George is a complicated character- the unacknowledged illegitimate son of a duke, he is for all intents and purposes a self-made man battling to maintain the fortune he earned through hard work. I also enjoyed the various side characters who become fleshed out through the story- though I found Augustine's attempts to exert control rather surprising, Monica is slowly revealed to be a complex and goodhearted person. There were some unanswered questions that led me to a four star rating rather than a five: who are the young bucks who take Honor and her friends to that gaming den? What happens to those young men and women- Honor seems to have no friends or interactions other than with her family. Given the Earl's immense wealth, why hasn't he made financial provisions for his wife and step-daughters? Despite these niggling questions, I enjoyed this series debut, and am looking forward to reading more about the Cabot daughters in the future.
