About this audiobook
Wealth has its dangers…so do certain men
Jasper Bond turns (female) heads wherever he goes. He can’t dance, isn’t known for his restraint, and his blood heats whenever he’s near his latest employer, the unwittingly sexy Eliza Martin. She insists no one will believe an intellectual like her could be seduced by a man of action like Jasper, but the combination of his desire and her mystery makes the case one he can’t resist. Client satisfaction is a point of pride and it’s his pleasure to prove he’s just the man she needs after all.…

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Sylvia Day writes erotica and historical fiction. This is historical fiction with a touch of erotica thrown in. This was also an enjoyable read. After all, who doesn't like a hero who has a secret and a heroine who has a spine! I'll be looking for more historical fiction by Sylvia Day. From the back...Wealth has it's dangers...There are disadvantages to being an heiress, as Eliza Martin knows well. Fortune hunters corner her, friends become opportunistic, and lately, someone is engineering "accidents" to propel her into marriage. Not one to be bullied, Eliza needs the right man to infiltrate the nest of suitors......so do certain menBy all measures, Jasper Bond is the wrong man for the job. He can't dance, isn't known for his restraint, and his blood heats whenever he's near his latest employer. Eliza Martin insists no one will believe an intellectual like her could be seduced by a man of action like Jasper, but the combination of his desire and her mystery makes the case one he can't resist. - Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Well this book surprised me, and in a good way. I really did not know what to expect, having never read any of her other novels, although knowing about the genre of the 'crossfire' novels I was intruiged as to what this would be like. This was a really well written historical romance but 'Mills and Boon' it ain't! there are some spicy scenes contained within its pages.
Both the main characters are really well written, fiesty and strong. I loved Eliza and she certainly meets her match in Jasper. Their love story is allowed to develop over time and with the development of that love both of them change for the better.
Add into this mix a dastardly deeds and you have a cracking good read. I look forward to reading more of Sylivia's work. - Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This book reminded me of an old fashioned cheesy romance novels but then a bit spiced up.
I mean all this in a good way, because I can really enjoy that kind of novels.
Although it wasn't a really memorable story, but quite enjoyable nonetheless. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Quite a few things in this book too me by surprise. There were several things I predicted were going to happen that didn't. Eliza, for example. She was leery about marriage thanks to growing up with a mother who prized passion and love more than anything else. She's learned to be distrustful of men and their motives and really has no desire to be attached to one. So I thought she'd have a fit when she realized Jasper wasn't everything he'd claimed to be, but Day really took things in an unexpected - and welcome - direction. I was also concerned that Jasper would push Eliza away, thinking it was "for her own good". But again Day surprised me. I truly enjoyed both main characters and the way they fell into love with one another.
The villain wasn't hard to figure out, but I was surprised by the motives of some of the other characters. It isn't often that I don't see a twist coming, so it was kind of refreshing here to see not all was as it appeared.
Overall I found this to a pleasant read with a strong romance and likable characters. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5When Eliza experiences several dangerous incidents, she decides to hire a thief-taker to discover if one of her suitors is trying to coerce her into marriage. But, she doesn’t bargain for the handsome, virile Jasper Bond who disconcerts her reasonably rationed world. Nor, does she realize that his agenda also includes destroying her most promising suitor. As the two seek their own agendas, they also wrestle with their growing attraction until each must decide which they want more each other or their own plans.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Very enjoyable. The dynamic between the hero and heroine was great fun and satisfying because it felt like it developed organically from their characters and backgrounds. Points off because none of the secondary characters felt nearly as well developed and for some rather jarring anachronisms and historical inaccuracies. Would inhabitants of London in 1818 really visit a 'store', rather than a 'shop' and describe how to get there in terms of 'blocks'? I'm also fairly certain a wedding ceremony in a private residence in this period would have been completely illegal and therefore never have occurred to anyone as an option.
