      I decided to re read this Malory Anderson series, as I am working on character sketch for this series and I had realized that I haven't reviewed much of the series and somehow Love Only Once fell through the cracks. And boy did I have a wonderful time reconnecting with this fun family and this romance that just gave me laughs and fun times. Love Only Once is the first book of the series and it starts off with Regina's story. Now Regina is the daughter of Melissa Malory, where she and her husband were killed in a fire when Regina was two years old. The rest of the Malory siblings raised her together but it was Anthony Malory she is the closest to. Regina is a heroine you just fall in love with right away. She is so devoted to her family. Her uncles and all of her cousins. I love the way she handles her family, you could say she is cunning but only in trying to help those she cares the most about. At the beginning, she is unsatisfied with all the matches and has gone through multiple seasons already. After visiting her Uncle Anthony, she is mistaken for someone else and kidnapped and taken to Nicholas Eden's home. When Nicholas realizes that its not his mistress at his home, but a strange woman he goes back home and chemistry sparks between them. But even though he returns her in secret. His ex mistress now, tells the worst gossips in the Ton about what happened and Regina's reputation is tattered and they are forced to marry. Now Nicholas has his own inner struggles and torments. His father is gone, and his mother (who is horrible) practically blackmails him around the circumstances surrounding his birth and believes that Regina will lose any feelings she has for him if she finds out the truth so he tries to push her away. But with the fun interference from Regina's family bring them back together and it gets pretty lively. You will fall in love with Nicholas and Regina and the whole Malory Family.

      This book was rather interesting. I like how Regina had such a protective family - she well needed in in the face of Nicholas who was bound and determined not to be hated. He nearly succeeded the opposite when he realized that he didn't need to fear her reaction to his situation. I hate how he abandoned her. There was no need for that. She didn't deserve it. His own thoughts blinded him to the truth. While she may have learned the truth she didn't hate him despite trying to for the way he treated her. It ends well but it was a bit rushed I believe. Rushed indeed.

      I actually liked this book because the heroine was fabulous. She was innocent without being too naive. I also loved how much she loves her family. I liked the love interest though his stubbornness started to get a little old by the end of the book.

      The author did a great job describing the people, places and clothing and it helped bring the book to life. For the first in a series, she also gave enough of teasers to really keep you wanting to read more of this endearing family.

      This is a re-read for me. I still enjoyed the story and I still loved characters. This is the first book in the Malory series and I love how she introduces the Malory family to you. This time around I did notice that the author jumps POV a lot! In my previous re-reads I hadn't noticed this, however by the end of the book I had gotten used to it.

      Regina and Nicholas made me shake my head at times. So close to happiness, yet neither can see it. I really liked when Nicholas would set out to woo Regina. Kinda wish there was a bit more of that. I do like how the author puts so much into all the characters in the story. I really enjoy falling in love with secondary characters as well as the first.. I find them all so full of life that I want to read all of their stories as well. All in all a good first book for what I know is a great series. Up next is one of my all time Favourites!!! Anthony Malory!!!

      Regina has 4 uncles in charge of looking after her during her debut season in society. She fears she'll never find one they approve of, that she could also love. She meets Nicholas, who is quite unsuitable and may even have a blood feud going with her Uncle James, but Regina is determined. The first book in the Malory - Anderson series.

      A Horrible PlotI have loved Johanna Lindsey's books for years and when I finally got around to reading this one I have to say I was deeply disappointed by it. The plot is cliched, the characters instead of making you love them inspire hate and revulsion by their actions, and the "love" story between them as trite as it comes. Ms. Lindsey missed the mark on this one, that is for sure.

      I do enjoy reading family series, for example, Mary Balogh's Slightly series, and I had hoped the Malory family might be similarly engaging. And I still hope so, but this first book in the series was not as good as I wished for.

      I liked the hero and heroine; he was a charming rake, and she was a beautiful spitfire. His mistaken abduction of her was a fun start to the book. I loved all of the uncles and their backstories. And although a pirate story suddenly appears about halfway into the book, it all fit together nicely.

      We've all read romances that involve the so-called Big Misunderstanding, but this was a book with dozens of big and little misunderstandings. Really, the miscommunications and misunderstandings between Regina and Nicholas were immensely frustrating.

      There were also lots of secrets, which typically irritate me, but Ms Lindsey threw in some well-executed surprises, which I won't describe so as to avoid spoilers.

      It's an entertaining story, though, and I like Ms Lindsey's style. The sex is pretty tame by today's standards, but that's okay. I will try the next book in the series.

      And finally, I can't help but complain about something that really bugs me, namely the misuse of English titles. Nicholas is called the Viscount of Monteith, which is completely wrong. Dukes are always "of" something; earls sometimes are, but not viscounts. Reggie, as the wife of a viscount, is referred to as a countess. Also, she's an earl's daughter, and earlier the author called her Lady Ashton when it should be Lady Regina. If Americans insist upon writing about English nobility, they should at least do their research. It's really so easy. (I was about to point out that it's all explained on Wikipedia, but of course this book was written in 1985, so perhaps I should cut the author some slack.)

      I especially liked Uncle Anthony, so I'll move on to his book next.

      I have to line up with the readers who found this book disappointing. The hero was not likeable, even when Lindsey tried to redeem him by trying to make him a sympathetic character. This is not what I read romance novels for. It was depressing.

      Love Only Once is the story of Regina Ashton and Nicholas Eden. This is also the first book in the Malory series. The first book I read by Johanna Lindsey was a Malory Novel. I cannot remember exactly which one it was. I just know that I didn't read the series in order. I have decided to read these books from the beginning instead of mixed up.I knew the story of Regina (Regan or Reggie) and Nicholas Eden from the previous book that I read. Even though I was familiar with the story it was nice to read the actually book that started this wonderful introduction to the Malory family. Johanna Lindsey is a fantastic writer and I look forward to reading more of her books.Regina Ashton has been looking for a husband for about a year in London and in Europe. She is tired of looking and having her uncle's decide that the ones she decide on are not the ones they want her to marry. She finds her husband under very unlikely circumstances. She is abducted by Nicholas Eden when he thinks she is some one else. Nicholas is known as a confirmed bachelor and wastrel. I loved this story for many different personalities of Regina's uncles. They are very protective of their sister's daughter, their niece, Regina. They have raised Regina since her parents died in a fire. They treat her as if they were all her father and not just an uncle. That is one thing I love about the Malory family. The may tease each other but they truly do love everyone of their family members.

      I'm bummed. This one had a good rating on GR so my expectations were such. I struggled to finish this and it's a sad day where I'm moaning to myself "crap, I have to finish that book." And I wouldn't have if I hadn't identified it as part of a challenge I'm doing. Monteith was a complete ass. He really had no redeeming qualities to him whatsoever. Oh, yes, he was supposed to be good looking and all and in my opinion he epitomized the old "beauty is skin deep" thing. As for Reggie, ok, she was sweet, I guess. But I couldn't even grasp on to her character. This is my first time reading this author and I'm not going to give up and will try her again. Later. I'd rate this one "meh".

      Okay, I'm cheating here, and I don't like them all equally, but I do love the Mallory's. They're all funny. I especially liked "Love Only Once" (the first book), "Gentle Rogue" (my favorite), and "The Magic of You" (where the heroine chases the hero shamelessly).
