- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I almost gave up on this book after disk 1. I'm glad I stuck it out because it ended up being a decent children's realistic fiction story. This small town had a lot of stuff going on around it. Ann M. Martin touched on quite a few issues without being too graphic or too preachy. I think this series would appeal to a lot of young girls because they could see themselves somewhere in the book. She even managed to catch my attention with a small cliffhanger at the end. Flora found a picture of her mother with Scary Mary". Darn you Ann M. Martin, what's the connection?!"
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is the first book of Ann M. Martin's new series 'Main Street'. Flora and Ruby are sent to their grandmother Min's house in Camden Falls, after their parents are killed in an accident. The sisters become friends with Olivia, who lives next door to them. Min and Olivia's grandmother,Gigi, own a sewing store called Needle and Thread. The three girls also befriend Nikki, a girl whose family has a bad reputation because her father is an alchoholic. Flora's interests include sewing, making cards, knitting and more. Flora is quiet, and would rather not draw too much attention to herself. Ruby is the opposite, she loves to sing, dance and act. Olivia is very smart- she skipped 2nd grade. She is also a very organised person.Nikki is a great artist- she loves to draw pictures. Before Flora and Ruby moved to town, she had no friends. Also, her father prevented her from doing things that would draw attention to their family.Welcome to Camden Falls is a great book, I really enjoyed reading about some of the adventures that were found in the first book of Main Stret.
