About this audiobook

Hidden is the first book in Bone Secrets, the multimillion-copy bestselling series.

Eleven years ago, the Co-ed Slayer murdered nine female students on the Oregon State University campus. Lacey Campbell barely escaped his attack, but lost her best friend whose remains were never found. As the sole surviving victim, Lacey helped send the sadistic serial killer to prison for life.

Now a forensic odontologist examining teeth and bones for the state Medical Examiner, Lacey is devastated when she arrives at a crime scene and identifies the skeletal remains as her college friend’s.

The remains are discovered on the land of ex-cop Jack Harper. Sparks fly between him and Lacey, even as they realize that the prosecution’s witnesses from a decade ago are now being murdered one by one. All the evidence points to the Co-ed Slayer as the culprit—only, he’s long since dead. So who’s the new killer? And is Lacey next in line to die?

Golden Heart finalist Kendra Elliot combines chilling suspense and steamy romance in a gripping tale, uniting in-depth forensic knowledge with a passion for thrillers. Set in the snowy winter of Oregon, Hidden creates spine-tingling chills.

Kendra Elliot's debut work, "Hidden: A Bone Secrets Novel", is an intriguing romantic suspense with plenty of cold hard facts and sparks-fly, steamy sensuality. The perfect combination for lovers of this genre, told by a new voice. Lacey Campbell is a forensic odontologist, a highly experienced, specially trained dentist who uses her expertise to help identify unknown remains and trace bite marks to a specific individual. Forensic odontologists, or forensic dentists, are typically called in to identify human remains that cannot be identified using fingerprints or other means, and also to estimate the age of skeletal remains. They may be called to work on a case by police officers, the medical examiner, or the coroner. When Lacey is called to an unusual crime scene to examine skeletal remains, she is distraught to discover that the bones are all that is left of her college friend Suzanne. More than a decade has passed since Suzanne was kidnapped by the infamous Co-Ed Slayer. Her fate had remained unknown until now, when her carefully placed remains were sure to be found. The property where Suzanne's skeleton was found is owned by former policeman Jack Harper, who left the force after a tragic incident where he was injured. Intelligent Lacey and instinctive Jack are a high-octane combination, complementing and completing each other in unexpected ways. There are those who wish to come between Jack and Lacey, including her unpleasant ex-husband, Frank, and also a former boyfriend, Michael, neither of whom are fond of Jack's increasing importance in Lacey's life. When new murders begin to occur, suspicion is cast in all directions. The Co-Ed Slayer died in prison, so who is playing this macabre game? "Hidden: A Bone Secrets Novel", is a perfect Summer suspense read, and it is also just the thing for a reading "all-nighter". I look forward to more "sensational secrets" in upcoming works by Kendra Elliott. Review Copy Gratis Amazon Vine

This was a wonderfully complex mystery that I just couldn't put down. Lacey Campbell has suffered from survivor's guilt for years since her best friend Suzanne was kidnapped from in front of her leaving her beaten and injured. Her testimony helped convict the Co-Ed Killer who had killed a number of young blond girls and left their tortured bodies to be found. However, Suzanne's body had never been located until Lacey, now a forensic odontologist, is called to the scene when some bones are discovered in the foundation on an aging apartment building. The building belongs to Jack Harper who is a former policeman who left the force because of an injury and who now owns a very successful property business. Jack was also one of the former boyfriends of one of the Co-Ed Killer's earlier victims. But the Co-Ed Killer died in prison. So who is responsible for the buried bones? And who is killing anyone connected with the case in gruesome torture-murders? Jack knows he isn't involved though the real killer is certainly trying to point the blame his way. He falls for Lacey and decides that he has to protect her. Lacey isn't short of protectors. Michael is a former boyfriend turned best friend and an investigative journalist. He is determined to protect her too and willing to throw Jack to the wolves along the way. Is Frank Stevenson the criminal? He's Lacey's ex and the split was very bitter. The story is told from multiple viewpoints. We hear from Lacey, Jack, Michael, the two police detectives who caught the crimes and who also have ties with the old Co-Ed Killer case and trial, and we peak into the mind of the killer and learn how he became the serial killer he now is. The story was very tense and exciting. Watching Lacey and Jack overcome there various issues and fall in love added to the intensity. I strongly recommend this one to lovers of romantic suspense. This is Kendra Elliot's first novel. I will be watching for her next book.

Book 17 of The Krewe of Hunters was very good. It is in line with the other books of this series having a group of the Krewe called in for some murders although this time they are called in because the ex-wife of Diego is a murder suspect. As always, interesting things are happening at the Conway Ranch & there are lots of suspects. If you like Heather Graham, and I love her books, and you have enjoyed the Krewe of Hunters series I think you will like this one as well.

Lacey Campbell and her friend, Suzanne, were at a gymnastics event when they were attacked and Suzanne abducted by the Co-Ed Slayer. Her body was eleven years later when Lacey, a forensic odontologist, is called to a crime scene and recognizes both Suzanne's necklace and her removable bridge. Jack Harper is an ex-cop and also owner of the apartment complex where Suzanne's skeletal remains have been found. Having dated a former victim of the Slayer, he now becomes a suspect. Before long another murder victim is discovered, one with connections to the Co-Ed Slayer. It appears that someone is killing the witnesses who sent the Co-ed Slayer to prison a decade ago, but even though the evidence points to him as the murderer, he's dead.

This book a typical romantic suspense novel with the beautiful, independent, yet vulnerable heroine and the tall, dark, handsome and of course, rich, hero. It wasn't was well done as many books in the genre, and you can tell this is the author's first book based on some of the cringe-worth lines. I'm also not a fan of the gratuitous animal torture scenes that so many authors feel they need to include to demonstrate how awful the killer is.

The story is told from multiple viewpoints, including the killer, where we learn how he became the serial killer he now is. All in all, not a bad book but quite predictable. The author now has several more books in this series, all available to borrow for free on Kindle Unlimited. I might try another one in the future just to see if she improved some of her over-the-top dialogue.

The only survivor of the serial killer called the Co-Ed Slayer, Lacey Campbell found purpose in life by becoming a forensic odontologist. Now, eleven years later, the body of one of the victims is discovered in a building owned by former police officer, Jack Harper, and someone begins killing the witnesses that put the Slayer in prison. Can Lacey and Jack elude the killer before they become his next victims?

Not a bad debut attempt although the mystery is better than the romance.

While the writing starts out weak with too much telling rather than showing, it does improve as the story progresses. Some aspects of the plot lack foundation, and, in fact, numerous details seem to be added as an afterthought because the author needed to establish something and included the information when needed. Thus, insufficient foreshadowing makes it difficult for the reader to follow the clues.

The mystery is gripping and the chapters presented from the killer’s POV ratchet up the tension and suspense. The romance, however, is lackluster as the reason for the attraction between Lacey and Jack is never fully apparent.

The characterization is good overall, however, there are several issues that grate on the nerves, such as Lacey’s incongruent reactions to the numerous men in her life and Michael’s inappropriate possessiveness given the fact that he and Lacey are friends rather than lovers.

All in all, a pretty good thriller and my issues with the writing are minor enough not to detract from the reading experience. I’m also interested enough in the secondary characters to continue with the series.

This is the first book in the Bone Secrets Series by Kendra Elliot. It is a total of a six book series.Lacey Campbell is a former gymnast and the survivor of the Co-ed Killer. Lacey's testimony was the one that put him away in jail. Now eleven years later she is a forensic odontologist, which means she looks at teether and bones. So in the beginning of this book, it is truly devastating when she is inspecting a set of teeth at a homicide and realizes that she knows whom they belong to while they are just sitting in the palm of her hand. They belong to her best friend Suzanne who went missing when they were both attacked by the Co-ed Killer.

Jack Harper is a former cop who now runs his families business. He is seen as a rich "playboy" but thankfully the book doesn't focus on this like a lot of other books where the millionaire playboy is the main love interest. Suzanne's body was discovered on one of his properties. What makes this even more puzzling is that he was one of the cops on the case all those eleven years ago.

This book has many perspectives and sometimes it jumps a little weird. The best way that I can explain it is that they needed to cut down on the size of the book and just cut whole paragraphs of descriptive scene changes. That is the ONLY reason why it is rated so low and that may just be my personal take on the writing and my comprehension of these scene changes. I hope that I am not judging this too harshly because of my personal comprehension issues, but that's just how I felt.

This is an amazing book if it wasn't for that but I couldn't get past that. The characters points of view are written great. It makes you think about who could be the killer many different times. Not only does it give you Jack and Lacey's view but it also shows you the killers perspective, one of the cops on the current case, and even Lacey's report ex-boyfriend/ best friend. I really enjoy mysteries that make you guess along while you read. It's the kind of thing that you have to take a break to really think, did they give me enough clues to figure it out for myself.

I borrowed this book for FREE using my Prime Reading, but you can also borrow a copy for free using Kindle Unlimited. Prime Reading is free if you already pay for Amazon Prime and it is like a lite version of what you can get with a Kindle Unlimited Subscription. Now that I am done with the #sellout mode, haha.

Story was good, I like Kendra's writing style. Twists, but not so complicated you get lost. The story made me stick through the rough audio narration.
I would recommend the written version of this particular book. I do mostly audio books and the narrator was tough to listen to. Robotic in delivery and found myself spacing out and missing pieces because of this.

I've now read or heard narrated in audiobook version, seven of Kendra Elliot's books - so I guess I can no longer claim she's a new author for me to discover, rather, she's a new favourite author. She's a favourite alongside other suspense 'with a touch of romance, emphasis on suspense' works by: Allison Brennan (FBI), Lisa Garner (police, FBI and private consultants), Lisa Scottoline (lawyer's perspective), and Laura Griffin (forensics perspective) = if any of these other authors are favourites of yours, consider trying out Kendra Elliot if you're not already familiar with her work. Regarding "Hidden" specifically: I liked this story better than the other six books I've read, even while saying I liked all of Elliot's work. It includes characters from cross-over series but can be read as stand-alone and is the first of the "Bone Secrets" series. In my opinion, it's a more complex storyline than the others. Like Elliot's other books I've read, the author does a decent job developing the characters and creating back stories as well as keeping the pace and suspense high. I wasn't completely surprised by the conclusion = "who dunnit" but this did not take away from the story.

The Hidden offers what one may expect from a Krewe of Hunters book: ghosts, history, beautiful scenery, tour tips, and hot romance. This time it's Estes Park, Colorado and the Stanley Hotel. Our prologue involves a 19th century couple named Nathan and Jillian Kendall. Nathan was a former Civil War Confederate soldier who turned robber for awhile, but quit when one of his gang (all ex-Confederates) killed a man during a robbery. He found his peace in Colorado, where he bought a ranch from a man named Rollo Conway and married a U.S. Marshal's daughter. They had a baby son, Zachary, but the time trouble struck. The Conway Ranch is now a B & B [Bed & Breakfast] and museum. It was bought and restored by one of Nathan's descendants and his wife. Our romantic heroine, Scarlet, is another descendant of Nathan. (His son had 14 children. There are about 200 descendants. If that seems a lot to you, my oldest aunt [97 this year] is a great-great grandmother with over three dozen direct descendants. Who knows how many there'll be over a century from now?)Our romantic hero is Scarlet's ex-husband, Diego. He turned down an offer to join the Krewe, but accepts in a hurry when Scarlet calls to say she's in trouble (spooky trouble). There's a serial killer in them thar mountains. Can the ghosts of the slain help prevent more deaths? There's a nifty murder device in one chapter. Most of the guests flee the Conway Ranch after the first bodies are discovered. Loved the reactions from the five who stayed when the Krewe holds a seance and the spirits are active. We also learn why Scarlet divorced Diego. Of course this case is bringing them back together. Theirs is not the only romance in the book. I'm happy for the other couple.Dog lovers are out of luck.Cat lovers will have to settle for behind-the-scenes barn cats. (Until the Krewe shows up, they provide the ranch's only security, and pretty limited security at that.)Horse lovers will enjoy Blaze, Zeus, etc.
