About this audiobook

Three years ago, Emmy Everett made the painful decision to call off her engagement and leave New York City behind. Since then she has been hiding out in Rhode Island working at a bait and tackle shop and haphazardly shooting a documentary about fishermen's wives. July 4th weekend has rolled around again and Emmy is mustering up the courage to return home to New York (the site of her own failed romance) to celebrate her brother Josh's wedding.

En route to his bachelor party, Emmy is shocked when her typically resolute brother confesses that he is having serious doubts about getting married-and he may even be in love with another woman.

Emmy is determined to help her brother face up to this decision-the one she fled from herself. With less than twenty-four hours to go before the wedding, she takes Josh on a road trip to find this mystery woman. Along the way, Emmy embraces her own hard-earned lessons about romance, commitment, and what happens when we refuse to let go of the past.

Strangely hit me a little too close to home. That said, I would also like home to include a well-off family with a big house in the NYC suburbs. And my brother's hot chef friend.

Coming from nothing but vampire novels, this book was a welcome change for me. I absolutely love the relationship between Emmy and Josh. A light read that I couldn't put down until I turned the last page. Highly recommend this book to anyone looking for an easy yet satisfying read.

A whole lot of nothing going on in the book. Starts off with Emmy leaving her boyfriend in a motel in RI and then fastforward 5 years to her leaving RI to go to NY for her brother's wedding. As a child Emmy wanted her parents to take her to London but she went to Hersey, PA, instead. Never got to London but you don't find that out until almost the end. Only reason I stuck with it is because I'm a RIer and was curious about the title.

I honestly picked this up because I liked the title and was surprised by a good read. A humorous and realistic look at family, relationships, and growing up. Once I started I couldn't put this book down.

Emma's brother Josh is about to get married but she finds out that he has a woman on the side. Will the wedding go through? Despite this very shallow sounding plot, the author writes in a very mature, thoughtful style making this book a nice read. There is no name dropping, only character development!

Emmy Everett is returning to her home town for her brother’s long overdue wedding, only to discover that life and love are just as confusing for him as they have been for her. Years earlier, she left her fiancé while they were traveling through a small town in Rhode Island and moved on with her life- about two blocks to the left, where she moved into a house and remained. When Emmy arrives home, her brother confesses that he is unsure of whether or not he should get married- another woman is in the picture, he’s unsure of who he loves, he’s unsure of what the “right” thing to do is. Emmy spends the wedding weekend piecing together her past while trying to help her brother piece together his future.Quote: “These were rules, hard and fast, and people stuck to them. They gave you concrete ways to make decisions about whom to spend your life with. More concrete ways than how you felt or how you didn’t feel at any given time.”I picked up this book because, let’s face it, the title is fun. This will teach me that just because a title is fabulous, it doesn’t mean the book will be outstanding. In this case, the book was fine- but I expected it to be more of a fun lighthearted read than it was. Reading the book-flap, I imagine they believe it is more fun than it actually is (since it was described as wickedly funny- which it is not). It is a pretty darn serious look at marriage and commitment and how it’s complicated. It occurs over the span of just one really long weekend. And except for a brief mention, it involved neither London nor America, so I felt a bit mislead. Oh, well.

Right before the wedding, late doubts lead to confusion and guilt and questions about what is the right thing to do.
